Speaker 2:

oh, hello oh, josh is there, he's gone quiet there was an awkward pause there so craig, make sure you know that.

Speaker 3:

You guys, you got to remember I was not on this trip, guys, that's that's.

Speaker 2:

That's staying in.

Speaker 3:

That's staying in do you love travel? Do you love road trips? Do you love to travel? Do you love road trips? Do you love finding hidden treasures in towns all over the USA? Hi, I'm Joshua.

Speaker 2:

And I'm Craig. Welcome to Treasures of Our Town. It's the podcast that explores unique and charming towns scattered throughout the United States.

Speaker 3:

Guided by our love for location-based games like geocaching, join us as we venture into some of the country's most intriguing destinations, uncovering hidden gems and local secrets along the way on today's episode.

Speaker 2:

Josh, you were not there, but I was there with the one, the only minnesota boy, minnesota boy, minnesota, also known as tim, and a good patron of ours as well. We're talking about fort worth in texas.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, cowboy, oh man Texas, oh yeah, cowboy. Oh man, this show is just going to be called FOMO of Fort Worth.

Speaker 2:

It will, it will and Josh, we've got Tim here now. Tim, good day mate. How are you, mate? How are you Long time, no see, yes, I'm here, I'm here.

Speaker 1:

Wow, the triple Minnesota boy.

Speaker 3:

We have not been all together since May, since we went to.

Speaker 1:

Flagstaff for Gia Woodstock yes.

Speaker 3:

So it's great to be all together today.

Speaker 1:

We really did miss you on that trip, Josh.

Speaker 3:

Yes, and so that's what we're going to talk about. We're going to talk about is Fort Worth worth it?

Speaker 2:

That's a great title. Is Fort Worth it? Exactly, I like it, I like it Is Fort Worth it.

Speaker 3:

Oh, that's better, is Fort Worth it.

Speaker 2:

So, Josh, will you start off with your delays? Mate, you can start off with your delays. I'm going to guess Is it the fact that you didn't come?

Speaker 3:

Well come. Well, yeah, that is, that was last week's delay, but I'm going to project my delay into the future, or? When this publishes it is the week of going cashing which is a big mega event in rome, georgia. I've been in 2018. I had such hopes to be able to go this year, but it's just not in the cards. So I will not be attending. Going cash the final, the last going cashing ever yeah and craig. Craig is going. Yeah, that's. He's gonna have a great time that's actually my upgrade.

Speaker 2:

To be honest with you, that I'm going, not that I'm going without you, just that I'm going oh okay, yeah, yeah. So there you go josh.

Speaker 1:

How many of those have did you go to?

Speaker 3:

I've only been to one, just the one. I've only 2018. It was a pirate theme.

Speaker 3:

It was really cool, I remember it's it's just like one big ongoing story, like they do such a good job of like telling the story and it and it and it all. Like you, you find caches and then you get clues, and then it's like, step by step, every day it's a it's. You're getting closer and closer to the final thing, which is an escape room. They create an escape room at the end of it and use all the information that you've gained for the whole week based on geocaching and getting clues, and they have these cash cards with that have clues on them and then, yeah, it's, it's really cool, it's, it's one of the most well done geocaching events I've ever been to yeah, I did see that video, josh as well.

Speaker 2:

You led the way because they have a street parade as well and you led. You led the street parade, as, uh, the goonies are the guys. How do you say?

Speaker 3:

it.

Speaker 2:

Hey, you guys yes, they're the one I was sloth. I was sloth from Goonies, yeah, because that was a pirate themed.

Speaker 2:

This year they got detectives Detectives is their main theme, and the old school detectives as well. And Josh, see, I'm a former police officer and I didn't want to go like you know, I'm used to that sort of stuff, so I've got myself an outfit, but it's the old black and white striped convict outfit that I'll be wearing, so I'll be on as a convict this time, instead of the detective From Australia, the convict Exactly right from down under.

Speaker 3:

That's appropriate. I love that. So, yeah, that's my delay. So what's your upgrade? Apparently your upgrade. So I guess we don't have to talk about your upgrade any further, unless you want to.

Speaker 2:

No, but that's my upgrade. All my upgrade was the fact that I'm still on the road and I'm heading on my way to Rome, Georgia, for going caching. That's exactly my upgrade. So what's your upgrade then? Josh?

Speaker 3:

So my upgrade is actually in the past, so you all know. I probably talked about it in this podcast many times my favorite movie of all time. Back to the Future. What do I also love to do other than geocaching? What's my other hobby? I love going to live theater. So, after a four-year wait, I finally went to back to the future, the musical oh wow last weekend, and it was amazing. It was everything I hoped and dreamed for.

Speaker 2:

Yes, new york city. Was it still in new york city?

Speaker 3:

no, it was in minneapolis. I went to the touring the touring group touring now.

Speaker 2:

I didn't know that. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, but I mean this is a touring, I mean it's Broadway level touring group, you know. So, um, and yeah, it was just oh, guys, it was so amazing. I was considering when it, first't know, never worked out. And then I was on their Instagram profile four years ago and I'm like please, please, please, bring it to Broadway. And what did they do? They brought it to Broadway and I was literally Googling flights and as I was Googling flights and thinking about how much it would cost to go, I was like you know what, for the amount of money I'm willing to pay to go to broadway to back the future of the musical, I'm wondering, you know when it's touring and you know what, when it does come here, I could get front row and guess what, guys you?

Speaker 3:

got front row I was in the second row and tim knows the orpheum theater. It's one of our largest theaters.

Speaker 2:

And it's gorgeous, it's huge and I was in the second row.

Speaker 3:

And when I tell you, when that DeLorean came, there was a flashlight and it skidded out of nowhere from real-time travel. It looked so real guys.

Speaker 1:

This is what I was going to ask Did they have a full, actual DeLorean on?

Speaker 3:

the stage. Yes, and they drove it around and they made it look like it was driving. And you guys? This has nothing to do with travel, except time travel. Time travel yeah. Time travel, that's okay, so it does fit. That was my highlight. That was nice. It was four years in the making.

Speaker 1:

And you took your lovely wife to that. Correct I did.

Speaker 3:

And my brother. My brother drove up here from Iowa to see it with me because he loves Back to the Future, 2. Yep.

Speaker 2:

What about you, tim? I want to know, tim, what's your delay or upgrade? Which one do you want to start with first?

Speaker 1:

Well, Craig, I'm going to go with delay. I'm going to go with delay first, and it's one that you're um our recent trip to fort worth, which we will be talking about in a minute yeah, is it worth it? Was not. That's not my, that's not my, that's not my. Delay um the delay was the horrible hotel we stayed in oh yeah are we already segwaying into the topic? It's just my hey you. You put me on the spot for an upgrade in the delay.

Speaker 3:

Here they are you don't want to know, tim, why the hotel was so bad? Do you want to know really?

Speaker 1:

I think I didn't book it there you go if you'd have been there, we would have been in an airbnb and we would have been fine I like, yeah, when we you know, people have heard, when we travel together, everybody has their role, everybody, everybody has their thing.

Speaker 3:

I take joy in finding the accommodations, usually in Airbnb.

Speaker 1:

This one had some construction going on. The front desk was literally a table in the hallway. Wow, like a card table. Yeah, like no lobby, no lobby at all. Yikes, no hot water, like the whole time we were there. Um, thankfully it was texas heat and we were okay.

Speaker 3:

but anyway that is my delay? Yeah, craig told me was there water coming from the ceiling in my rooms?

Speaker 2:

yeah, I got moved twice and both my rooms themselves had water coming out from the ceiling fan inside the bathroom, so there's like two shower heads inside the bathroom.

Speaker 1:

Actually, I didn't have that problem. Yeah, no, but it was a janky room and thankfully it was only two nights that we put up with it.

Speaker 2:

But Tim, tim, tim, we did have hair dryers, mate, we did actually have hair dryers.

Speaker 1:

It's right on the back of the door hanging in a bag. I never touched it.

Speaker 2:

No, neither did I, because you and I are both sort of not required, but anyway, so there you go.

Speaker 1:

Well, you're going to want my upgrade now. Yeah, yeah, also probably not related to travel, but I'm just going to give you an upgrade in my own personal life.

Speaker 2:

I got to hang out with my grandson charlie a lot this week and uh, that's that's.

Speaker 1:

It's just one of the joys of my life to be able to be a grandfather and hang out with him, and you know he calls me papa and uh, and then you know we went to the park and we did all kinds of fun stuff, so it's just a joy to watch him develop and change, and how old is he how old is he now?

Speaker 3:

Oh wow.

Speaker 1:

Just the same question. He'll hit two years next month, oh gosh.

Speaker 2:

And Tim? I know the answer to this, but tell the listeners as well that Tim's got a YouTube channel. By the way, it's Minnesota. Boy is his name. Links are in the description. What's his favorite pastime? What's Charlie's favorite pastime in regards to watching something or someone on television?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, he loves watching my videos, of course, because I'm in them and so he watches for that. He's come to know Courtney because she's been in a lot of my videos, so he met her in person and recognized her, I think. But anyway, he really loves watching garbage truck videos.

Speaker 2:

Oh, well, kind of one of the same. I suppose now I'm only joking yeah, garbage truck videos.

Speaker 1:

You know, just watching trucks go down the street and pick up the cans and whack them into the garbage truck and I actually enjoy watching that in real life.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I like when that garbage truck comes by I do go to the window because I do love enjoy watching that I don't know why.

Speaker 2:

Yeah and it's true what they say it's true what they say about owners and their dogs, because goliath joins you at that window as well, when there's, when there's a bunny going past or a squirrel or a garbage truck. So yeah, so it's the same.

Speaker 2:

Well, my delay my delay tim as well should be actually yours also. So, speaking of travel, now, uh, I use road tripper app, uh to to basically mark out all my travels, especially this recent road trip that I'm doing right now. It's called road trip, right, it's a great app and, uh, you know you show your points, that you want to stop at your points of interest. So I've been getting things like you know the cash across america series.

Speaker 2:

You know very important and unique munsies as well, because there's there's unique munsies that are out there, like there's one munsy in every single state. That's well, not every state, but only one type of dale and barb road trip and munsy, for instance, as well. Well, going back I think it was eight, nine, ten years ago munsy brought out this thing called the golden ticket, so it was very much like a willy wonka, and so if you bought a particular pack, you had a chance, a very rare chance, and there was initially it was 10 golden tickets, but because it was so popular, they ended up doing 20 golden tickets that were spread out worldwide.

Speaker 2:

Well, there's one in fort worth, texas, and this is the second time the second time that I've been to fort worth and I forgot about capping it because. I was having so much fun with Tim and eating barbecue, drinking beers We'll get into all that very soon. And yeah, we'll get into all that very soon, drinking beers, having barbecue and I totally forgot about it, and it wasn't until.

Speaker 1:

Tim, as you know, you didn't even mention it to me.

Speaker 2:

I didn't until an hour and a half south. I drove an hour and a half south. I drove an hour and a half south and one of the hosts there of the munzee events that were there for as well, denali. She reached out to me and said oh, by the way, craig, did you get that golden ticket, munzee? I was like no, I almost turned around tim.

Speaker 1:

I almost turned around, so there you go yeah, yeah, yeah, I was at the airport by then, yes, you were craig, yes, my.

Speaker 3:

Do you remember when we got our golden ticket, one together, though in Ohio? Yes, in Ohio.

Speaker 2:

Exactly, and the Buckeye State. We were having the ice cream at the same time, remember.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, it was a little ice cream shop so we didn't forget that time.

Speaker 2:

No, I know. Well, that was kind of random because we were already there as well. The ice cream shop for an as well, or the other thing for the pizza tour, remember?

Speaker 3:

oh, that's right, yeah, see, so there for that. So there you go, my delays and upgrades.

Speaker 3:

So are we going to get into this show into the actual nitty-gritty or what? Yes, so here's the deal. I didn't go on this trip, no, you didn't. But I have been to fort worth before, so I can chime in, because geo woodstock was there. Yes, I want to say like three, three years ago, I believe, yeah, and so I've been there before, but I wasn't on this trip. So I'm excited to hear about your trip. I'm going to be very, very curious. I'm going to ask you guys questions of everything I missed. Try not to have too much fomo, but I have experienced some of Fort Worth and yeah, and so I'll do my very best to chime in.

Speaker 2:

Very good mate, very good Craig we Craig.

Speaker 1:

we do not feel bad for this man. He keeps talking about FOMO, but he had just returned from Europe.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and not just, not just Europe. He went. He went to Venice and then Germany. I'm like this, like this guy oh, I missed out on going to Fort Worth to scan some QR codes on some poles. Instead, I go to Germany and Venice.

Speaker 3:

I'm not complaining, guys. I'm just saying that I missed hanging out with you guys. You guys are more interesting, maybe, than you know, it's all about the brotherhood.

Speaker 1:

It's the brotherhood. Anytime one of us is somewhere else, the rest of us are sitting at home just watching it happen. This is true.

Speaker 2:

It's happened to me when I've been at home and you two, by yourselves, go for a drive up to Fargo and Gilby to get cash, like that, and then, of course, you send me a thousand photos to you know, rub it in.

Speaker 3:

You caches like that. And then, of course, you send me a thousand photos to you know, rub it in. You know, it's okay, that's true, realistically, the next time we'll probably all travel together will be at the next year with stocks next may, I'm guessing.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, and that one there, people, if you don't know, that's in, uh, in west virginia, morgantown, west virginia, and if you want any more information, reach out to me. See my show, because I am an ambassador for a geo woodstock uh next year.

Speaker 3:

So there you go and it's the hometown of don knots, also known as barney fife.

Speaker 2:

Oh never in the bad don't you have a video of you being barney fife josh?

Speaker 3:

oh yeah, I have a couple of videos all right, there you go.

Speaker 2:

So, josh, I did a road trip all the way across uh from new jersey in my in my little four-wheel drive, and I got there on the day before tim flew in. I hung out with uh his name is wheelan w helen, also known as bob, and uh yeah, he's a geocache and muncie player. We hung out at lunch there and had some great lunch, uh, meals itself and uh. So that's what I did on Thursday before Tim flew in on the Friday.

Speaker 3:

What did you have for lunch, oh?

Speaker 2:

you just reminded me. We went to a chicken place but they supposedly had this hot chicken dish and I haven't spoken about this on any other podcast. This is the first time, because Bob told me not to talk about it, but anyway, I'm going to tell him that Sorry.

Speaker 3:

I don't know if bob I don't know if bob listens to this podcast.

Speaker 2:

He doesn't. Actually, he asked me for the links anyway. Um, so it's this chicken place, josh, and they had um, this, this range in temperature, anything from from a year mild to, uh, what was called? It was called something else, I can't think of the name of it now. Um, amf chicken, it's called anyway. Um, so that's what it was, and I said, I said oh, no, mild thing. So I like on me.

Speaker 2:

I don't like spices. I can't eat hot food. My mouth burns even with some pepper in it, for instance. Right unbeknownst to me, here's this guy, who's a tall guy, you know, you know, bob, he's quiet guy, reserved guy. Yeah, he said I'll have as hot as you can make it. The guy I. I looked at him with my open eyes. I'm like what the guy said to him? Well, I have to get you to sign a waiver. A waiver, yeah, like there's actually risks and dangers in this. Was he joking? No, no, he was serious. Oh, he was. He came back out with an actual piece of paper with a pen and had to get Bob to sign his name.

Speaker 2:

That's so funny, yeah, yeah, yeah. So Bob had these two chicken tacos. So I'm there, I could kind of smell it as they came out. So I'm there just watching him and I said to him before asking him, talking all about it, I said, okay, what happens to you when you eat hot food? He goes, kind of the worst thing that happens. He goes. I get a bit sweats and sometimes I get some runny nose. I said do you taste the flavor? He goes. Oh yeah, the flavor is what it's all about for me. I'm like, okay, so this guy doesn't just do it just to be, you know, macho. Anyway, he's devouring these two tacos in front of me whilst we're both having a normal conversation like this. Not one conversation like this, not one bit of sweat, not one sniffle and he's looking at me like nothing, like it's nothing like it's a piece of lettuce.

Speaker 2:

He didn't even have a drink, like. You know what I mean like oh my gosh and he said. He said no, that's not, that's not. Hot for me like this, is that yeah, and they had to sign a waiver for it. There you go, and so amf yeah amf, amf.

Speaker 3:

Have you guys ever seen the show hot, hot ones? Have you ever seen that hot ones? No have you seen it too?

Speaker 2:

I don't think so hot ones.

Speaker 3:

It's basically like a guy that has a conversation with celebrity and then they slowly bring on hotter and hotter.

Speaker 2:

I've seen clips of that on youtube.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah if you ever get a chance, watch the conan O'Brien episode and the funny thing is them trying to carry on a normal conversation while it just gets hotter and hotter and it gets to a point where they just can't take it anymore and some of them just lose it. And it sounds like Bob would do very well on that show.

Speaker 2:

He would do very, very well on that show. But I had to research what AMF actually stands for. Do know what it stands for. Well, there's two versions. There's a family friendly version, there's a not so family friendly version. I will say the family friendly version and that is adios. My friend is the, uh, the family friendly version.

Speaker 1:

So there you go. You can work out the other one. So there you go, I think we got it.

Speaker 2:

I couldn't believe it. But yeah, he ate it all, not a problem, didn't sweat. I could not believe it. Impressive. So there you go. So anyway, thank you, bob, for hanging out with me, and I will send you this link, at least, bob, so you can listen to this episode and hear your name being brought on this one too. So there you go, yeah oh, hello oh josh is there he's gone quiet

Speaker 3:

there was an awkward pause there so craig, make sure you know that. You guys, you got to remember I was not on this trip, that's, that's that's staying in.

Speaker 2:

That's staying in. What's, what do you want? What do you want next, josh? What would you like next? Would you like to move into friday?

Speaker 3:

because yeah what happened next.

Speaker 1:

So tim tim, tell us about your trip over well, I arrive on friday, so I I flew in from minneapolis um delta airlines wonderful, treated me well and, uh, you know, got my rental cards. I went with dollar.

Speaker 1:

You guys ever rent from dollar that was a mistake yeah, it was a mistake, pre-paid and everything, and they still didn't have my car Yikes. So eventually I did get a car. It took longer than it should have, but I got a Toyota Camry, which is not what I wanted to rent, but Craig and I made do. We scooted around town in that thing. Yeah, not bad.

Speaker 3:

What kind of temperatures are we talking this weekend?

Speaker 1:

it's the kind where, when you get off the air-conditioned plane and you even just step into the jetway, you know you just feel like you're gonna die. It it was. It was almost 100 degrees every day, yeah that's a high 90 I just do not.

Speaker 3:

I do not have FOMO about that. That's rough and you're participating in activities that are primarily outside, not completely other than indoor eating moments.

Speaker 1:

The host did a fairly good job at most of the events of placing the Munzees we needed to find in the shaded areas. Each one is under a tree rather than yes, out in the path which was in the sun.

Speaker 3:

So yeah, so the first munzee event was was it friday night? Friday night yeah, cool, and where was that?

Speaker 1:

that one was that heim barbecue, heim barbecue.

Speaker 3:

Oh okay, let's talk about that texas barbecue. That's where it's at. Oh yeah, let's go there oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Well, heim BBQ, josh, basically, is it's halfway between the chains and a backyard sort of style barbecue, I think. Personally, I personally had a platter, but the platter itself was a sampler. I said to Tim we were talking about it and I said to Tim I'm torn, I don't know what to get. I didn't know whether to get the brisket or the pork or whatever, so I had the sampler and it was cheaper. It was smaller portions, which is fine for Texas and, yeah, for me, though, the burnt ends were the best, but they were pork burnt ends, they weren't brisket burnt ends. I've never had them before. Oh, my word, they went. They went down my throat after swirling around in my tongue, and the burnt, the barbecue, that that's oh, I've never tasted anything like it in my life.

Speaker 1:

Just saying so yes, I went a little bit bigger. I was hungry from traveling all day and, uh, I went with the three meat plat platter, so I had sausages. There was two big sausages, wonderful. I had the turkey, which I really loved, and some pulled pork. And it was all wonderful, plus a couple of sides.

Speaker 3:

So good. Craig, in your sampler did you any like just straight up um ribs falling off the, off the bone? Yes, yeah, there was situation there was.

Speaker 2:

There was the pork burn ends, there was also the uh pork ribs as well, um, and then there was some brisket on there as well. So that's the three of the sample that I had. And I'm telling you, josh, it was insanely good. But, um, here's a tip for everyone out there listening, and that is if you're going to. It was insanely good, but here's a tip for everyone out there listening, and that is if you're going to go to Texas of any sort, try and look for the smaller backyard barbecue-style venues, and Tim and I and we'll get to this at the end of the show, because Tim and I actually that was our last meal together too was a backyard barbecue place which surpassed, absolutely surpassed, any barbecue that I've had anywhere in the world at any point in time, like it literally was.

Speaker 2:

Um, I went to, before tim arrived, I went to a place called hard eights and uh, hard eights is, uh, it's big, um, and it looks, it looks, it looks apart, it looks like in a big barn. And you and you walk up and you're in line, and you walk up to the pit master who's standing there in front of the big barbecue and he asks you you know how much, in terms of weight, do you want of each bit of meat? And so you go, oh, quarter pound of brisket, you know whatever. Quarter pound of sausage and whatever. And so it looks good, looks the part, but the meat wasn't as on par, because they serve so many customers and it's more of a chain sort of style. So, uh, yeah, there's the tip for you people out there try, if you're in texas, in fort worth, anywhere at all, try and look up for a backyard style or a family-owned business, barbecue business, and that's where you're going to get the real true texas barbecue. So, but, yeah, I think tim can attest to that as well yeah, this sounds delicious.

Speaker 3:

If you're listening to this, your mouth is probably watering because you're like, oh, that sounds good. So you said this was the first munzee event. Was the event? Was the event all indoors or you know a lot of times for the? So for those of you that don't play munzee or know much about it, like a lot of times at munzee events, like a big part of it is actually sometimes a little different than geocaching events. Geocaching events can be very, very social, which is great. Munzee events can be too, but a lot of part of Munzee events is that you're actually playing the game as well. Earning points.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, this one, this one getting their food and sitting around, you know chit-chatting um, but they did put out a trail of 50 physical pins to go find. So it kind of went down this uh trail on both sides of a, a water drainage thing, not really a river but kind of a drainage thing, you know texas typical drainage thing, um, and so we, but we waited longer, we waited kind of for the sun to start going down because that walk was a little more in the sun.

Speaker 1:

And people that had done it before eating had walked in the sun and it was just, you know, 100 degrees and hot, so we waited for it to cool down just a little bit Smart.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

So kind of sticking also to Munzee because I wasn't there and you know I do love Munzee as well, sticking also to munzee because I wasn't there and you know I do love munzee as well. I've seen pictures, photos of the events and there was like I saw somebody that had a really well done, like one sheet piece of paper that was super colorful, that like just to kind of describe the whole weekend, and like the badges you can earn. That was like really like that was better than I've ever ever seen.

Speaker 2:

Well, tell me a little bit about that like I can attest to that, josh, because I haven't seen, because, as you know, now too I've been to a lot of big Munzee events too, whether it be Florida or California. Even Minnesota have a big Munzee event too, but this one here they focused on what they call challenge badges, and so what they did was they had, I think, five or six actual individual badges that if you, over the course of the weekend, if you scan these particular items, these particular monsies so you have to scan like a cow, because you're in texas, you have to scan something else, you have to scan resellers, you have to scan you know other things, other types of monsies then you show your, uh, your scanned items to the host and then they give you a qr code for the badge to scan, for that badge.

Speaker 3:

oh, that's good. I love that we had something. We've had something similar like that in minnesota tim, where we've had like punch cards and stuff like that, but I was just so impressed, I was just so impressed. How, how?

Speaker 3:

everything was just like laid out on one sheet so it's just like instead of just like, instead of just like telling people like, if you do this, this and this, this was like. Here's a piece of paper, these are your challenges for the weekend. And it kind of gave you something to shoot for and reference, because I I I've been to events like that and I'm always like, okay, what are we supposed to do with this one? You know exactly, and it was just like it was communicated so well, but it wasn't just on a sheet worked harder.

Speaker 2:

I think craig worked harder on it than I did I think you got, I think you ended up with all of the icons all the icons. I got all. I got all I missed.

Speaker 1:

I missed a couple of them.

Speaker 2:

You don't mess around, but uh but they, they, they had these on on a4 pieces of paper for everyone like as a handout as well. But they also had the big one up on the. It wasn't one paper, the big one, the big one was on like like a malamine board that they had, and they had that at every single event like a big hard poster board, um, like you see, with the political boards at the front of people's houses, that sort of material, and uh, yeah, and so they had that at every single event and they were, they had these big magnets that they just posted up at every single, um, you know, rest area that we're at.

Speaker 3:

So yeah, they did a really good job. And you know us three, we do go out to a lot of munzee events all over the country and I just love how like everybody takes like pieces of other other areas, ideas, and like it just it feels like in the world of munzee events are just getting better and better because everybody like borrows everybody else's ideas and it's like encouraged. It's not you know, it's, it's really cool. So we don't have to stick on munzee too much. But I I was just because I wasn't there.

Speaker 1:

No in relation to Munzee, though I mean it was obvious by the people there that it is creating travel.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

Craig came from New Jersey. I came from Minnesota. There were two other people from Minnesota there, yes, and there were people from southern Texas.

Speaker 3:

There were people from.

Speaker 1:

Florida.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Florida From all over the country that went to Fort Worth for these Munzee events. So it really does create travel.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and that's the. You know, that's the spirit of this podcast too. It's just like we're. We're location-based games, bring you. So Friday night, sun is going down, it's cooling down, you guys are scanning scanning Munzees, and not as sweaty. But you guys are scanning Munzees and not as sweaty but probably still sweaty yeah. And did you guys do anything after that on Friday night? Did you explore anything else beyond that, or were you just tired?

Speaker 2:

No, no, we went to another brewery.

Speaker 1:

Yes, Craig and I. Yeah, as you know, Josh, we end up in breweries.

Speaker 3:

You me, craig. Yeah, we end up in breweries, yeah, so tell us about. What is it like? What was it like?

Speaker 2:

so it was called so it was called the. Was it the old town brewery? Uh, old, old brewery, tim, I think it was. And basically we we said to a few of the others we said, look, we're all going to a brewery, whatever. There's a couple people there. Oh sorry, we don't drink, no worries, all right, we'll see you tomorrow. And so it ended up being just tim and I, which was, you know, actually know actually quite nice the. Old Texas Brewing Company. The Old Texas Brewing Company. I knew it was old something.

Speaker 1:

Two locations, one in Fort Worth and one in Austin. I think the other one's in Austin.

Speaker 2:

Oh, there you go, but there was one particular item about this particular brewery. So it looked like a normal bar where you go in and there's a big bar area. They had some what do you call it like a live band there as well playing too, which they were really cool because they were an old school band, like with the big. We've got one guy had a big Texas hat on, like a huge Texas white hat Old grizzled Texas guys playing blues.

Speaker 2:

Yep, it was great, but Tim, tim, I'm going to leave this to you now, because you're a big brewery man yourself. What did they have that you've never seen before at any brewery or drinking area?

Speaker 1:

yeah, never seen this before in my life. We sat down at the bar. You could get a table as well, but we sat down at the bar, um, and I, we, you know, quickly the guy came over, we ordered some beers and then, you know, we're chit-chatting and then I glanced down and on the bar, there's this long running along the bar, like halfway across the bar from where you're sitting, is in is ice. Oh, it's like a, it's like a little indented. It's indented into the bar, so it's level with the bar, but it's made of ice and it's a place where you keep your glass and it keeps it ice cold the whole time you're drinking oh, that's cool never, seen that ever and he told us the barman told us as well, basically what it is.

Speaker 2:

You you know the ice um, the taps that that ice up. It's the same sort of thing, same sort of concept. And that is, it's a metal rail that ices up the condensation on it. So it's not actual ice. They don't put ice in there Of a night. It melts and then it self-cleans. It actually self-scrubs itself clean and then ices up for the next day brand new again and it's very smooth ice and your glass sits there nicely.

Speaker 2:

And Tim can attest to this as well. Because I have you know me, josh, with my craft beers and stuff as well. My IPAs Sometimes the heavier. If you're not a beer drinker, then you'll learn something. Sometimes the heavier the beer, the smaller the pour they have to have, and so they do it in a cup. That's very, or a glass I should say it's very much like a bit of a wine glass sort of style. Um, so it's not actually like a beer glass style. So I had those, so it didn't really affect mine too much, but because tim had the actual long like schooner glass all the way down sort of style.

Speaker 1:

Yeah then you're in america, craig here. Here in america we call those pint glasses oh, pint glass, sorry, sorry and uh, yeah, you yeah. The kind of beer that you tend to drink is a higher in alcohol content. Yes, so they give you a smaller pour. They don't give you the full, like 12 or 16 ounces. You're gonna get eight ounces probably 10, 10 I go for a 10.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so did either of you guys get a flight so you could check in as to as many beers as possible on untapped.

Speaker 1:

No, that night I did not. I quite often do that.

Speaker 3:

You are correct. We've talked about this on previous podcasts, but that's the key. Like, if you want to do untapped, which is basically a location-based game for drinking beer, tracking, beer Tr, drinking beer tracking, tracking beer tracking where you've drank beer. Yes, yes, if you get the flight, then you can check into four beers in one shot yeah, or five or six if they have a long flight and and this particular app in which we're talking about also encourages the uh, different styles, uh, of drinking.

Speaker 2:

Um, you know, different beers to try rather than just the one, because you get different badges for the more you try. Also the different locations too, because some, some locations are like verified locations, like you see on meta and stuff as well, and uh, yeah, there's verified locations, you get a separate badge just to go for a different verified location. So, yeah, untapped, it's called untapped.

Speaker 3:

Yes, and I was operating on a whole new level last year when I went on my Germany trip, because every night there was a geocaching event and every night it was at a beer garden and every night it was at a different beer garden in a different city drinking beer. So it was just like this one long 10-day beer tour it was cool. And so I got many badges on Unt.

Speaker 1:

Untap, that's germany for you, yeah that was great sorry.

Speaker 3:

Sorry to go off topic, you know back back to fort worth so that was the end of our friday night, josh.

Speaker 2:

So that was the.

Speaker 3:

And then you got up in the morning and what's the first thing you did but drying yourself off Craig from your room leaking Cold shower, Cold shower, Cold shower.

Speaker 1:

We met for breakfast in the conference room, slash classroom Nice. Because the regular breakfast area was again gone, because it was under construction Wow. Yeah, I mean they did I have to give it to them. They did provide basically the regular breakfast that they would normally provide.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's good, it was fine.

Speaker 1:

Anyway.

Speaker 3:

I'm really shocked. We hustled off. First of all, I'm shocked that this hotel was even open, like why not just shut it down, fix everything and then open it up again? They're certainly double dipping.

Speaker 2:

They did tell me, Josh, that it looks like it's going to be this way until at least the end of the year, so construction was I mean we're pretty sure that corporate heard from both of us.

Speaker 2:

Oh yes, we're talking because it's four floors, four floors of actual rooms, so there's four stories and on the fourth they're doing the whole entire fourth, fourth floor, you see. And so at one point there at the front, in the parking lot area itself, there's like parking bays all blocked off because there's a big crane there with a box that's hanging outside of the, the fourth level, like you can't even you have to walk around it because it's all roped off. And yeah, so it was, it wasn't. I hope it wasn't nice.

Speaker 3:

I hope both of you get lots of points from the loyalty program of this hotel. I think we won't say the name of this hotel on the podcast, in case someday we want them to sponsor us.

Speaker 2:

It's not normal. It's not normal for this hotel.

Speaker 1:

It's my favorite brand. I always choose this brand, I know.

Speaker 3:

I know. I know what brand it is. I've used this brand too. I've had good experiences with favorite brand.

Speaker 1:

I always choose this brand. I know, I know, I know what brand it is.

Speaker 3:

I've used this brand too. I've had good experiences with this brand.

Speaker 2:

Have you heard back in it yet, tim, from your? I have not, neither have I. I might have to follow up on that tomorrow, but anyway, josh had asked what did we do next?

Speaker 1:

Sorry, squirrel. What did we do next? We hustled off across town to Anaheim, not Anaheim, arlington.

Speaker 2:

Arlington yes.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, which is kind of between Dallas and Fort Worth, arlington, which is home of the Speedway right Arlington Speedway that doesn't sound right to me.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, like NASCAR.

Speaker 1:

Oh, okay, arlington.

Speaker 3:

Speedway. Yeah, because when they did it, so when they did Geo Woodstock in that area, one of the events is that you could ride inside of a NASCAR, like around the track and go like 150 miles per hour and ride with like a real driver. So I think people can actually tour the Arlington Speedway, which is a NASCAR Okay, cool, or maybe real driver.

Speaker 1:

So I think people can actually tour the arlington speedway, which is a nascar okay or or not, maybe not nascar, but it's like a indycar anyway whatever go ahead seems like you didn't, didn't make it there no, we didn't go to the racetrack, we hustled off because, besides munzee, we also do geocaching, which anyone that listens to this podcast has also heard of Probably. We needed to go to this place because we needed to go find the oldest geocache in Texas.

Speaker 3:

Tombstone.

Speaker 1:

It's called Tombstone.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I found it and it's also the oldest I believe the oldest multi-cache in the world.

Speaker 1:

I think it is. Yes, I have heard that I haven't guaranteed and looked it up, but I believe it's, and the funny thing is it's not really when I did it.

Speaker 3:

It's not a multi anymore really. Oh, I mean it like, or did you have to go to two different locations? Yeah, well, it's free differently.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, this this this is the dispute. This is the dispute and we don't need to talk about it on this podcast because it's not all about geocaching. But I will have a video out, not tomorrow but next Friday, about that geocache and you will hear the dispute that Craig and I had about how many stages was this multicache?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, it's very debatable because I have a video about it too. We can put it in the show notes, Like here's what I remember. I remember like child graves.

Speaker 1:

Did you?

Speaker 3:

guys walk through that Like there was like toys, like it was a graveyard of children, creepy and sad. And then I remember a fence.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

And then I remember bushwhacking and finding the cash.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's just yeah, that's still the same.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you, you miss kind of. There's a first stage that's also looks at a stone marker, but it's out by the road. Do you remember that one? Yeah, I vaguely remember it, yeah, so that's. It's kind of like a couple of stops and then the final. Yeah so you'll see that in my video. A week from tomorrow, a week from Friday there you go. I don't know when this podcast comes out.

Speaker 2:

Next comes out Monday. It's currently a Thursday. Anyway. So yeah, we had to do that one, Josh, because I'd never found the oldest in Texas, let alone the oldest multi in the world as well.

Speaker 1:

So that's always a bucket list, You've got to do that, so we made time to drive over there and do it.

Speaker 2:

It was a nice drive in the morning, no traffic on the weekend, and then we made our way back to the next Munzee event. At the same time, I will say, to add to that as well, and that is, if you are a geocacher and you're looking at doing, this, doing it on a weekend. It was good because of parking issues.

Speaker 1:

Otherwise, it is a college area. Yeah, it's right in the middle of where a college is and uh, it's, you know. No place to park that's legal unless you have a pass.

Speaker 2:

Exactly, but on the weekend it's okay, there you go, and then after that Tim.

Speaker 3:

Tell us a little bit about the next Munzee event. Was it like at a park or something?

Speaker 2:

It's up to you, Tim. Go for it. Was it at a park?

Speaker 3:

Was it at a park.

Speaker 2:

Was it at a park? Yeah, this was the main event.

Speaker 1:

So they had the main event on a Saturday morning at 11 am. It was called.

Speaker 2:

Trinity Park, right, trinity Park. And I will say let's go on about Trinity Park and that is Trinity Park. I didn't realize. But if anyone thinks of Central Park, new York, this is the Central Park of Fort Worth.

Speaker 1:

It is a long beautiful river.

Speaker 2:

It is big josh. They even have miniature trains that you can ride from one end of the park to the other on these miniature trains. Beautiful miniature trains. Um, they have like the the bridge going over the top and this is where they. I come in with, uh, murals, so we talk about like artwork of a city, etc. This is where there was murals all painted underneath the actual big the bridge, the car bridge that goes across, on the arches and stuff as well. So there's beautiful murals on that as well. So it was a really nice. It's good enough in terms of tree coverage as well for shade. You know, the upkeep on the shelters were really really nice as well. There's no graffiti, none of that sort of stuff too. So I was there, as I said before, with Bob a couple of days beforehand and there was maintenance people there checking to make sure because they'd booked the reservation area of the shelter, and so there was maintenance people there checking that they had power to the shelter still.

Speaker 2:

You see, and making sure that everything was working in working order, which is really cool. So, yeah, that was the main event. Now, like any Munzee main event, they did have a game. Tim, you got to roll. What do we do? I did. What do we do for this game?

Speaker 1:

I got picked to roll. They had these dice, but not like dice, like regular dice that you would see, like big softball sized um dice that look like you know, look multiple numbers on them, like you would use if you were playing d and d, for instance yeah, I saw the video.

Speaker 3:

I was like, wow, these are really large nerdy dice.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, very large nerdy dice and um what you do is you roll those dice, you get a number on each of them and, uh, if you you got to choose which number you wanted to use.

Speaker 1:

So say, you got a seven on one, a ten on the other just say seven and then one of the hosts would pull off this magnetic board that they had put up, uh, a little card, and with the number seven on it they had, you know, like one through 14 or whatever it was on there, and, um, then you would get whatever it was inside that card.

Speaker 3:

How were you chosen to roll Like? How did they pick those?

Speaker 1:

Random draw through. If you were just attending the event, you got to put in a tag and then I think if you did other things, you could also get more draws. If you I don't know if craig, I don't know if you did those things you put more tags in than I did yeah, and I didn't get to roll, just saying so.

Speaker 2:

I can guarantee if josh was there he wouldn't got to roll because the things they were giving away the things they were yeah, the things they were giving away were game pieces for the game you know virtual game pieces for the most part.

Speaker 1:

I forget which one I won.

Speaker 2:

You won a condo.

Speaker 1:

A condo. That's right, Do you?

Speaker 3:

remember, Tim, the last time that we did games together at a Munzee event. Yeah, do you see that video, Craig? I don't recall it.

Speaker 3:

It was like this spray game it was like a tournament it was a tournament and it came down to me and Tim to the finals yeah, you gotta put that in the show notes so that's another thing. That's another thing that I think people need to know about. Munzee is like it's not just about scanning QR codes, it's not just about points like they actually have like interactive games as a part of it, as a part of these events. It just kind of brings I don't know. It just adds to the fun exactly, and it's love that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, munzee, munzee, though, you are looking at your phone a lot playing the game it's still a very social game.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yes, yeah, I've always said as well, um, as a tutorial, if you want a better word for a brand new player, a Munzee player, if you're going to your very first event, it's okay to look at your phone and play while you're talking, you can do two things at once because everyone does. No one really sits there. It's not rude. It's not rude. No, not at all. It's a different feeling, you know, because you see it on all the time. I mean, there's people out there, parents out there, we've got kids and you're always saying them get off your phone and like, eat dinner like a regular person, not at a munzee event. At a munzee event, you're allowed.

Speaker 3:

You're allowed to sit there with your head in the phone, but still talk, still talk and still listen yeah, you don't have to look anybody in the eye. So it's like this perfect, like I want to hang out with people, but I'm I'm a little bit anxious, socially anxious, so I don't have to look at people in the eye I can just look down, but I can still talk so it's kind of like this in between yeah, that's perfect, I I really.

Speaker 1:

I really like it so, but it was yeah, it was a beautiful park to be in and even though it was like 97 degrees- or something like that. It really felt decent. There was a breeze, a lot of shade On the other end of the park, kind of Craig, where we parked our car, remember there was like a kid's splash pad area over there we didn't go in there. We probably should have.

Speaker 3:

So I'm looking at the photos of this park and you're right, guys, like this is a park I haven't visited before. This is a real gem of Fort Worth. Oh yeah, if you're listening, if you searched Fort Worth in your podcasting app and we came up, if you enjoy the outdoors, this is the place. A lot of water I'm seeing like with the water, I'm seeing like waterfall features. You guys mentioned this train, that goes through the thing.

Speaker 3:

Guys, oh my gosh, this makes me there's mini golf, there's a mini golf course? Yeah, they have everything.

Speaker 1:

When we got there we did have a little bit of trouble finding a place to park because they were setting up for A 5K looked like it was just ending um, on one part of the park and then on another part of the park we drove by, they had obviously set up a bunch of stuff for an oktoberfest celebration oh, wow, yeah, it's gonna be. There was gonna be taking place, so yeah, a very busy place and if you have kids.

Speaker 3:

As a part of this park there's a. I don't know if you guys walked by it, but this is playground area called dream park, did you? Guys see that, yeah, we walk I'm looking at these pictures and it's like these houses and there's like these really long slides and it's just called the dream park of fort worth.

Speaker 2:

It's a it says, a real paradise for children and their parents exactly, and it's so anyway, this place is what a great place to have an event and if you are a, a mobile gamer, as we are as well, it is filled I'm talking filled to the brim full of Munzees number one. It's also filled to the brim with Adventure Labs as well. And then Josh and then I didn't know this until afterwards. Roomba Cats, your good friend Roomba Cats, who we all know is a prolific, incredible geocache hider.

Speaker 3:

He's got filled full of gadget caches in there too. What?

Speaker 2:

didn't they? Did you guys not see?

Speaker 3:

them. No, we did not do that. We did not do any of them.

Speaker 2:

We didn't do any we didn't do any caches, we didn't do any adventure labs, we were just literally all we could do was munzee, because there's that much to do so well, yeah, we were playing munzee and you know making youtube videos yeah, I can relate, I can relate.

Speaker 3:

And here's another thing it's like there's a really cool view now it's, you know, fort worth is not like it's not like a new york city right but yeah, it does have a skyline so it's like you can kind of the park is kind of like set back, but then it's up against the fort worth skyline it's just kind of it's beautiful yeah, yeah, no, it really is.

Speaker 2:

So that's a definite must. The trinity park is definitely a must attend for any reason at all if you're in fort worth.

Speaker 3:

So, yeah, definitely so so that that was the morning event that was considered the main event. Did that bleed over to an evening event or an afternoon event in the same park?

Speaker 1:

no, no, okay so so the evening event.

Speaker 2:

Go, go, go, go, go go, it's all yours.

Speaker 1:

The evening event was guess what? At a brewery.

Speaker 2:

Oh, you don't say.

Speaker 3:

Now I'm getting to understand why you guys went to this event and why you decided not to invite me.

Speaker 1:

But listen, you asked if the morning event and why you decided not to invite me. But listen, you asked if it. You asked if the morning event bled into the afternoon event for craig, and I kind of did actually because, after the morning event we were like where's the closest brewery? Yeah and I just brought one up on my phone and then navigated there in the car right. I didn't know that that was the same brewery, that the event was gonna to happen later on.

Speaker 1:

So Craig and I kind of pre-drank a little bit, we pre-gamed.

Speaker 2:

You pre-gamed, we pre-gamed, we pre-drank, but Tim if you recall, we only had one, josh, because some of the Munzee actual headquarters people live in Fort Worthxas we're talking dylan who owns the if you play munzee, he's a flat dhs.

Speaker 2:

We're talking, uh, his wife wiley, and she is flat. Murray, and also matt, who is, uh, flat, flat matt. So those three he doesn't work there anymore, no, he doesn't, but he still turned up and um, so those basically turned up for the main event and so we got then invited to a separate little location in between the events for another, another cold beverage, because you've got to keep hydrated in this heat and that sort of weather, you must keep hydrated. So we met up with those three, uh, separately as well, and, uh, but then went back again to the, the main event, uh, sorry, the evening event.

Speaker 1:

So you would have. You would have liked it, josh.

Speaker 3:

They were drinking miller lights yeah, they were I yeah, I believe you know matt's matt and uh dylan. Uh, they're cool dudes I've hung out with them before yeah, and dylan, dylan does the artwork, most of all the artwork for muncie no, no, he's.

Speaker 2:

Which is just so good, he's a creative side. He doesn't do the artwork. Robbie does the artwork for munzee no, no, he's. Which is just so good, he's a creative side. He doesn't do the artwork. Robbie does the artwork. He, oh yeah, yeah, but he does. But he dreams it, dreams it up and has the ideas come through. So he's a creative director, okay, of munzee. So, yeah, he does a brilliant job.

Speaker 1:

That's so that gathering craig. I looked it up because I was like what was the name of that restaurant? Because, like I said, uh, the munzee people were gracious enough to like pay for our drinks and some food. So I didn't have a receipt or anything from this place, but I looked it up. There was a place called little wood rose. That's right.

Speaker 2:

That's right but it was really cool. But here's a tip for you, because there's a big outdoor area as well if you're going to go there, you can't go, you can't get in. And if you're under 21 even if you're in the outdoor area, not drinking at all, you still then they don't allow only 21 and over in any part of the event was it 18 or 21? 21. 21 for its drinking age, so it's 20 yeah um, yeah, but it was a very cool.

Speaker 1:

We sat outside on this very cool patio they have like a whole like half a football field size of fake grass.

Speaker 3:

Yes, I'm looking at pictures.

Speaker 1:

Lots of seats and umbrellas to sit under outdoor bars. The end of that grassy area is just the biggest TVs you've ever seen and there were multiple football games on while we were there. Just a really, really nice place to sit and the appetizers we had were wonderful.

Speaker 3:

I had a lot of it and it was very good so you guys, you know if I was there, yeah, and I was um outside on the patio of little wood, little wood rose, yeah, fort worth. Yeah, because I'm looking right now there's little wood rose in several locations in te, by the way, but this is Little Wood Rose, fort Worth, and you guys were under the stars and you know what I would have done. The stars at night burn bright and bright, deep in the heart of Texas.

Speaker 2:

I didn't. I feel for your wife and your dog Josh. They'll be like oh, he's recording again.

Speaker 3:

Did I totally spike out the microphone?

Speaker 2:

I did pull away. I didn't even look, to be honest with you, but I'll find out in the edit.

Speaker 3:

But anyway, so is that what you guys did? Did you sing that?

Speaker 1:

It was the middle of the day. So it wasn't the night.

Speaker 3:

No, this is in between.

Speaker 1:

I guess it wouldn't have been appropriate no but it was a gorgeous place to sit nonetheless exactly, there were a bunch of guys that came in with huge cowboy hats on. Oh yeah, they were too, so yeah yeah they wear jeans in 95 heat.

Speaker 2:

They wear jeans, that's, that's a real man.

Speaker 3:

That's a real man right there if I what. The first time I went to texas I went to like um, it was a, it was actually a munzee thing. Um, it was in mckinney, texas, because that's where the munzee headquarters was and they used to have like they almost used to have like a block party at their offices and it was like the theme was like texas, hold them, or something like that. Right, and I literally bought. I bought one of those giant red foam cowboy hats on Amazon and I sent it to Texas.

Speaker 3:

I sent it like to their to a friend and I was wearing this gigantic foam cowboy hat the whole time.

Speaker 2:

That's what I would have done, and you?

Speaker 3:

guys probably would have been embarrassed of me, so good thing you didn't invite me no, not at all, but we finished.

Speaker 2:

You say not invited you say not invited I think you were invited.

Speaker 1:

You wait a minute nobody.

Speaker 3:

Nobody talked to me about this event. I'm not hurt, I'm just disappointed. Yeah, okay, no, I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Okay no.

Speaker 3:

I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed. Oh geez.

Speaker 2:

We finished off the night. We're getting back on track now. We finished off of going back to the, the original brewery, and the brewery itself was. It was a maple. What was it called? Maple branch? Maple branch craft brewery. And, Josh, it was of Oktoberfest as well, so they had. Lederhausen upon Lederhausen upon Lederhausen. They had a live band there playing as well. They had an outdoor area, an indoor area and yeah, it was. Oh, I got a yeah.

Speaker 3:

Was it night then?

Speaker 2:

Were you under the stars.

Speaker 1:

It got darker, yeah.

Speaker 3:

By the time we left there, I think.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it was.

Speaker 3:

So, at the end end. It was like the stars at night for big and bright deep in the heart of Texas.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it didn't spike out.

Speaker 3:

Is that how it was?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's exactly how it was, except for it was Oktoberfest, so it was all in.

Speaker 2:

German. It's like you were there, Josh.

Speaker 3:

The stars at night.

Speaker 2:

Don don't get him started. He knows he's german. I'm sorry I can't. Yeah, yeah, okay, um, no, so they had, because, because it was octoberfest, josh as well, they had steins of beer like the big jugs, but but they didn't have the, the little ice like along the bar itself, so it didn't really get cold.

Speaker 1:

No, I did have an Oktoberfest beer of theirs that they make there and it was wonderful.

Speaker 3:

I loved it a lot.

Speaker 1:

It's one of my favorite styles of beer, the Oktoberfest style.

Speaker 3:

I love a good Oktoberfest. Do they have the thing at Oktoberfest? They have the thing where you hold out. They have contests where you have to hold the stein out. They did one for men and they did one for women.

Speaker 1:

I think the men, the guy that won held it out for like four and a half minutes.

Speaker 2:

I was going to say it was minutes. It was a massive, massive, thing of beer Stein, of beer Big Stein of beer. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's cool, I like that.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so yeah yeah, that's cool.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I like that. Yeah, so, yeah, so that was that was. That was the evening.

Speaker 2:

That was not a munzee, that was just. You were still thirsty, yeah, but no, that wasn't even no, it was an event.

Speaker 3:

That was. Oh, it was.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it was, it was an event and we did another walk around the town there to do more physical munzees yeah, yeah, wow, so you have one or two bees and then when you start to feel a little buzzed and you go for a walk around the town to to get yourself back to normal again and then going for more beers.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

It sounds like you guys were really thirsty. I don't know if Craig wants to reveal how many beers he drank, but I had. I think I only had two because I was, of course, driving.

Speaker 2:

Well, I don't.

Speaker 1:

I don't recall, because Tim kept on going to the bar and using my tab that I had open. Yeah, I switched to Coca-Cola after two beers, but yeah, craig tried a good part of the menu.

Speaker 2:

Well, yeah, but, josh, my downfall is that, you know, I think, because I was too busy talking and mingling. I was talking to Dylan and Wiley and other event people who were there as well.

Speaker 3:

I didn't log all the beers themselves in untapped. There's just too much to do. There is, and I like to be social.

Speaker 2:

If I'm there by myself, oh, I'm an untapped king. I do the photos, I do the review, I do everything. But if I'm there with people, if I can't quickly do it on untapped, then I don't do it, because I want to socialize more.

Speaker 3:

I'm that sort of person, so there yeah, yeah, so you said, dylan and Wiley and Matt were there as that one as well.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Did you sense that they had been there before, like that they knew about this place Because did they live in Fort Worth or I believe so or close close to fort worth yeah, I'm not sure how close they live, but I think they had been there before you know, I'm really thinking like, since they were there and like they were, you know they're a part of the game. I'm sure, like when they showed up they were just like super proud of their town and you know what. That's a damn rare thing, these days.

Speaker 2:

Did you know that? I knew that was coming to him. Did you? Did you?

Speaker 1:

yeah, it's, I could feel it.

Speaker 3:

There you go, yeah, yeah, you're like you're like where is he going with this?

Speaker 2:

No, I, I you kind of we, we we get to know you, josh.

Speaker 3:

We get to know the. The we preempt we, they're looking for it. It's like where is Waldo? They wait for it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we have had mail before Josh, whereby you didn't say it once on one of the episodes. Because you said it, you saved it for the patrons only show yeah, yeah yeah, and we got fan mail for that. Just saying, you know, we actually did get fan mail, josh forgot it.

Speaker 1:

So there you go. Well, I don't know if they were proud of it or not. I don't know if they were proud of that brewery or not, but they should have been, because it was a really, really cool brewery to hang out in. If you're traveling to Fort Worth, make sure you stop by Maple Branch Craft Brewery, definitely.

Speaker 3:

I mean we're getting towards the end because we're now. This is Saturday night. Sunday morning there was probably another event, probably another event? Yeah, but I'm going to interject here because the coolest thing when I visited Fort Worth, the coolest thing was the stockyards. Did you guys visit the stockyards?

Speaker 1:

We did.

Speaker 3:

Do you know what I'm talking about?

Speaker 1:

Yes, we did Well, I know what stockyards are, and I know Fort Worth is famous for them.

Speaker 3:

Yes, yeah, we did not visit there.

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so the stockyards like this area. It's how do I describe? It's like a village of like like kind of country, like I don't know, but they actually have like these big bulls with the big horns.

Speaker 3:

They like walk down the street and like this longhorn it's like a thing, and then there's a rodeo there yeah and when I went I, when I went there, I went to the rodeo in fort worth at the stockyards and it was the most texas thing I've ever seen in my life. Yeah, it was wild. We talked about it, craig well yeah, what?

Speaker 2:

this is why we missed you.

Speaker 1:

We didn't, we didn't get a person to do all that for us to say oh my gosh, I do yeah, I do think I mean craig and I were focused on the gaming and the making of our YouTube videos, of course, but yeah, we probably needed you there, josh, to do the other social aspects To find the go-karts basically yeah, exactly.

Speaker 3:

To ride the bull. Like guys we got to ride the bull Because there's bulls that walk down the street. But then this rodeo was just insane. Like the most insane thing I talked about it with you, craig, when we were at Geo Woodstock on the stage was they let the children just in the middle of the rodeo thing and then they release these wild goats and the kids chase and try to grab onto the goats and they're just being dragged by goats and then if the kid catches the goat he gets to keep it. I was like how is this? Even legal.

Speaker 2:

It's texas, it's texas, it's texas, exactly, exactly anyway so.

Speaker 3:

But here's the thing like, if you're visiting fort worth, like the stockyards is pretty, like it's iconic.

Speaker 2:

So next time, guys yeah, we'll, we'll go back, we'll go back again.

Speaker 1:

I was only there for like two and a half days.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, really, the next, the next day was a. It was the, the finale event itself, josh. It was another. It was another park, a smaller park this time, so it did have a big lake in the middle with a nice fountain, and, again, the pins that they put out, you know, put a nice walk around the park itself as well, and they had a really nice shelter area there too. So, yeah, it was. It was actually again, it was like a. It was very a somber goodbye really, wasn't it, tim? It wasn't a, it was no, it was like a oh, like an exhale of the weekend.

Speaker 1:

It felt like, yeah, it was um, it was a wonderful um little event again, more socializing, but lots of points to be had if you're playing munzee yeah and we did take a nice walk around that park yeah, we did.

Speaker 2:

We did again, concentrating on a bit more film work as well and doing some video stuff too.

Speaker 3:

So, exactly, exactly, but after that I love yeah well, I'm just gonna say, on the sunday events for munzee I, I love how relaxed they are. Yes, you know so, especially for us, like we're often. We're like during the main events, we're always like focusing on getting content and playing the games, and then the sunday events always just like oh, let's just chill and have coffee yeah, yeah, I don't know I I really love, for some reason I really love the sunday events yeah, yeah, no, exactly right.

Speaker 2:

But then after that event, uh, tim and I, we had um little bit of time free and we had to grab some lunch, and this, this is the location where we had the best barbecue that I've ever had in my entire life. I'm trying to skim through the show notes now to find what it was called. It was Brown's Backyard Barbecue Brown's Backyard Barbecue. Josh, you know you're in a right place for barbecue when, um, you know and this not being no political, no race involved, whatever but when you're the only two white guys that are actually in a barbecue store itself and they're all talking with that real Texan accent and you know very, very African-American sort of slang that they're using, you know you're in the right place and we were in the perfect spot for barbecue.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, again, it's not like we went out of our way to try to look for lunch what's the best place. We just kind of Googled what's the closest Texas barbecue place close to us, you know, and kind of avoiding the chains. You know, like Craig mentioned earlier, kind of avoiding the chain restaurants, but just this one looked cool we got there and, oh man, it was real I bet yeah, I'm looking at a picture right now.

Speaker 3:

The front of it it's it's kind of a hole in the wall smaller place, yeah but there's a, there's. The picture is in front of this place is a is a smoker yep in front of the place, but it's on a trailer yeah, and it's like they clearly, they clearly haul this, this smoker around to events probably.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, so they probably cater I mean they probably cater as well, and it was clear when we walked in that you know the locals were there because people come in and they knew people by name. Yep, so I mean it was. It was clear that it's a very popular place amongst the people that live in that neighborhood, and we could see why because it ended up being wonderful.

Speaker 3:

So Google reviews, google reviews. Can I just say this first yeah, yeah, yeah, brown's Backyard Barbecue. This is kind of almost unheard of guys. Yeah, 4.8 stars Out of how many Wow On Google reviews and that's 134 reviews. Wow, that's like wow, 4.8, that's like, that's like top of the top it was wonderful that's like always so sweet in there yeah, they were so sweet in there.

Speaker 1:

We're in line and craig and I are just looking at you know, there's a woman that's cutting up different kinds of meats as people walk up to her and say what they want. And we're just like you know, we're just kind of our eyes are big because we're, we don't we don't know the process and we don't know, and we don't know, like, what we're going to say, because there's so many good choices.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

So we're just, we're just kind of. And then they got another guy comes out and he goes like, does anybody want a rib to eat while they're waiting?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, he wants to, like, hand out a rib to people like, while you're waiting that's oh god, that's awesome, but anyway, I love this place yeah, it was.

Speaker 1:

It was wonderful I had brisket oh, yeah, yeah and uh, the brisket and the and the pulled pork, I think, and then the? Um, it came with two sides and I I had this bean green bean onion mixture, which was super delicious but, the the side that I really really loved the number one really, really loved number one craig will agree the mac and cheese. Okay, so good, so creamy and a little bit of peppery spice in it, oh so good.

Speaker 2:

I've never had mac and cheese like that before in my entire life. I'm gonna say right here, that's number one mac and cheese I've ever tasted in my entire life the, the, as you said, tim, the creaminess, the cheesy creaminess of it as well. But then, with this, a bit of spice, a bit of peppery spice through it, oh yeah, that just, I just brought it to the next level. So, and I had uh, josh, I had, I had baby back ribs. I want my baby back, baby back there. So yeah, but. But this is what I'm going to say and this is where you know you're in a, in a, I want my baby back, baby back, baby back. So yeah, but this is what I'm going to say and this is where you know you're in a real family-owned restaurant. Is that?

Speaker 2:

We sat outside because there's nowhere to sit inside. So we sat outside on this little picnic table and again, tim and I, you know sitting outside, and you know a lot of other locals around the area, the guy who owns the place, come out and he goes oh, you guys, enjoy it. We're like, yeah, oh, this is delicious. I can't believe this, and we're so we're praising it. He goes, don't get, don't go anywhere. He came back out these two massive bits of dessert cake one was vanilla, one was raspberry and uh, and just gave us this dessert cake as well and said here you go, guys, try this, as. Oh, and those cakes were just delicious. I mean that raspberry one, tim, you must say you could almost taste the raspberries off the vine.

Speaker 1:

It was really, really delicious. The vanilla was very good as well, but the raspberry wow.

Speaker 3:

You know, guys, that's one of my favorite things about travel is when it's like these, unplanned, and you happen upon a place that's like this hidden gem, right, that you wouldn't necessarily find or like seek out, but you just like you were close and you're like what's? You're like, hey, siri, what's the closest barbecue restaurant? And then you find this amazing place yeah, I love I love, I love stuff like that that's so cool, and craig only sent me one picture of the whole trip, and it was of that food.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we did not send a lot of photos, did we?

Speaker 3:

You guys were clearly very busy.

Speaker 2:

We're trying to be nice to you when we're using your phone for Munzee. You don't really use it for any other purposes, including taking photos or videos. So really that's all you use your phone for, because it does run the battery down too quite a bit.

Speaker 1:

But that lunch it was so good, it was so good at that barbecue place, and then they gave us that cake, which is so good, and I was trying to hold back because the next thing I have to do is drive to the airport and get on an airplane and you don't want to be stuffed when you get on an airplane.

Speaker 2:

With a belly full of food, especially barbecue food, and then there's some dessert on top as well. So, especially especially if you don't have an aisle seat yes, yeah, whereas myself I've got, I've got my uh, my fridge inside my car. So, of course, guess, what I had for dinner that night at my rest stop was my leftover of my baby back ribs. Having them cold was just as good, just as good as they were coming off the uh, coming off the actual barbecue itself.

Speaker 2:

So then you had cake for dessert. Oh, I didn't. I'll be honest, I didn't finish all of it. I couldn't. It was just too much, too much so no, I didn't finish all of it, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Right after yeah, right after. That meal is where Craig and I parted ways. I headed to the airport and he jumped back in his camper and off he went.

Speaker 3:

On the road again, exactly as Willie Nelson says, which is appropriate because he's from Texas.

Speaker 1:

Guys, I had been to just one note. I've driven through that. I've driven through Dallas many, many, many times and stopped kind of in the Dallas area a little bit but never been to the Fort Worth side and it really is different. The Fort Worth side feels different than the Dallas side of that.

Speaker 3:

Yes, it is very different. It feels like a very different town. I think yeah, Now that you're saying that, I feel really I should have had you, Craig, visit the Toilet Seat Museum.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I forgot Just outside of Dallas.

Speaker 3:

And went and found my toilet seat and bring it back to me.

Speaker 2:

See, shoot, because that was just outside of Dallas.

Speaker 3:

You could have went on the way home. Another reason, Josh.

Speaker 2:

You should have been there Just saying.

Speaker 3:

I know.

Speaker 2:

Instead. Oh, josh, oh, I'm Josh. I decided to go to Germany and Venice instead.

Speaker 3:

Just, oh, I'm Josh, I decided to go to Germany and Venice instead, it's more like oh Josh, I decided to just be sick all weekend at home. That's what really happened Do you feel worse. Boy. Does that make you feel bad?

Speaker 3:

I don't know, Guys it sounds like you had a great time. I'm so glad for the great time you had without me. Yep, you know you can't do it all, man, you know you just can't do it all. And so that's the part of this podcast is, as you're listening to it, you're living kind of vicariously through Craig and Tim, and today I was living vicariously through both of you.
