Speaker 2:On today's episode, josh, you and I, we travel directly to Flagstaff, arizona. We all about our experiences in Flagstaff Arizona and then beyond as well after that. So how have you been?
Speaker 1:Yes, this is good, I'm excited about today's episode because we went to a place I've always wanted to go to for so many reasons and I'm so excited to talk about it because we had so much fun. It was all on Route 66. It was great. I'm doing great Craig Before we go.
Speaker 2:Before we start, I should say there's a lot in the show notes, a lot. So I'm going to say this right now and that is. I'm going to keep an eye on the time. I'm going to try and push through this as much as we can, but the extra there'll be extra, there will be extra and that'll be for our patrons. What do you reckon?
Speaker 2:Something extra and the extra will come out of today's episode, for patrons only, so we'll leave that till the very, very end. Meanwhile, josh, your, uh, your, what's your? Upgrades and delays. We've got to talk about upgrades and delays, remember yes, our upgrades and delays.
Speaker 1:This is very important. Yeah, uh, so our highs and lows are upgraded, grades and delays my delay. This week, unfortunately, we had a family friend pass away. Oh, josh, yeah, I know, and it's okay. Um, she was 93 years old. She was my grandma's best friend, oh, and she was sort of for me kind of like another grandma I was gonna say like a second grandma yeah yeah, like a second grandma.
Speaker 1:Her name was darlis and um went to her funeral this week down in iowa and, uh, yeah, it was, that was my delay, but that's a it's amer it is, but she had a wonderful life. She was a wonderful lady. But it is also connected to my upgrade because my grandma she's 93 years old and she lives alone and it was just kind of I think, nice for her and nice for me to have a surprise visit to grandma that she wasn't expecting. So all the family came and I got to spend time with my 93 year old grandma, which was my. That's my upgrade. That was. That was a surprise. I wasn't expecting that and craig yeah I had planned on the way home.
Speaker 1:You just recently visited it the buddy holly crash site in clear lake iowa and I had planned to go there, but guess what? Here's the delay. There was a storm. There was a storm as I was driving home so I didn't stop, but I had planned to so yeah, it's. You know, life is complicated, so it is lots of upgrades, ups and downs, upgrades and delays. How about you, greg? What? What was well, let's start with your delays.
Speaker 2:Well, okay, my delay it's been. My delay's been an ongoing delay. Josh, now you remember a couple episodes ago, when we were in person at your house, right where we are what? Where you are now, you know, sitting in front of your silver play button um, I was talking about my perceived. What did we say? We said what we thought was going to be our delay. What word did we use? I can't even remember. Oh, oh, oh, I can't think now.
Speaker 1:Well, we were manifesting.
Speaker 2:Manifesting, yes, manifesting our delays.
Speaker 1:We were manifesting our upgrades, but we weren't manifesting our delays. Well, I manifested my delay, we tried, I did.
Speaker 2:I did manifest my delay and I've manifested this delay ever since.
Speaker 2:So this has been a four-week delay for me, and that is, I've had car problems the entire time. So I traveled all the way from your place in Minnesota, I did my North and South Dakota itself, and I went through Wyoming, dipped into Colorado, utah, josh. I got into Utah, I couldn't even enjoy Utah because I had anxiety about my car breaking down because of these weird sounds and weird noise. So I went straight, josh, I did like a six-hour drive straight down to Flagstaff, made it to Flagstaff and paid some money at a mechanics there to try and get it fixed, et cetera, and then met up with you We'll talk about that, um, yeah, and then got back in my car again and it's doing the same problem all the way back here in new jersey. So I took it to my local mechanic here in jersey and it seems as though the mechanic in flagstaff, um, may have not used a, a correct part or you know what do you call it like a recommended part. They've used an off off brand part, so it might have to be replaced again.
Speaker 1:So but anyway, oh yes, that's my delay and there's so many people out there, I do believe, with car delays yeah, well, good thing your car did get a little rest in flagstaff, because we we'll talk about a little later. We had a rental. That was pretty epic. We'll talk about that in a little bit. So what's been your?
Speaker 2:upgrade, well, the upgrades on the upside, and that is coming back from Flagstaff back through east along New Jersey. I managed to do a lot of not a lot, but a fair bit of the 66, the Route 66 stuff, you know on the way heading east, I dipped under 66 here and there from the actual I think it's the 70, the I-70, go straight across, but you can dip off and on from 66. So, including things like Josh, you were very jealous the Blue.
Speaker 1:Whale, the Blue Whale in Oklahoma.
Speaker 2:Yes, I visited the.
Speaker 1:Blue Whale and there's an ammo can at the Blue Whale? Yeah, there is. I knew that geocache had a lot of favorite points, but there's an ammo can there can even better.
Speaker 2:Yeah exactly, I gotta get there um, I did, I did a little youtube short tiktok, you know, while I was there. That was for that one. But also I did the center point, the exact center point of route 66. There's an actual center point where it tells you the exact mileage to and from to the inch, basically. So it's exactly the center point of route 66. Um, that was pretty cool there as well.
Speaker 2:Uh, I did the cadillac ranch as well, if people don't know what that is. Um, that's like all these cars that are all sort of buried halfway into the ground that you can go and spray paint and whatever else as well. Oh, yeah, but, josh, like our name suggests, in terms of the our podcast name, for me it was traveling the old 66 and seeing all the old buildings, the old neon signs that are all still there and preserved like it was back in the 60s. Um, and these aren't the famous towns, these aren't famous things at all. These are just literally small towns and small businesses in those small towns, and I made made sure that when I was in those towns, I stopped, I grabbed something to eat, I did a bite to eat at these little local restaurants. So there's a little mexican place as well the best margarita at this little mexican place.
Speaker 2:Just saying like it's delicious so again because of our podcast and the way we are, it's the small towns for me along route 66 that need more um, need more push to not just the, not just the tourism stuff like the whale and that's all good, but it's just the small businesses that are still alive along route 66.
Speaker 1:So yeah, yeah, that's so. That's my upgrade. That's my upgrade. Both you and scott miller have inspired me. I I feel like I have a lot of vacation time left. Oh, you do. And you've inspired me to maybe get um one of those escape camper vans and take three weeks and just do the whole thing.
Speaker 2:Well, that's what's just chicago?
Speaker 1:yeah, yeah. Scott miller, gsm times two that's his geocaching name is currently doing that and there's so many adventure labs and so many cool things to see, and I want to go to that creepy clown hotel near vegas. There's a lot of cool things you see the pictures of it. It is the epitome of what this podcast is about.
Speaker 2:That's for sure it really is. It really is, it really is. Mate, how did you get to florida anyway? You didn't go direct though from from minnesota, did you?
Speaker 1:no, no. So this is wild. Yeah, before I went to arizona, I was, I went to florida, so I went to. I got to arizona via florida because I had to work in tampa, so I flew flew from on delta, which no problems this time.
Speaker 1:Thank goodness uh, flew from delta to tampa. I worked tuesday and right after my retreat on tuesday got on a plane and flew to to phoenix. Yeah on, I believe, united or american airline no, american airlines which was not as good as delta. Delta, if you're listening, we will accept your sponsorship. I know craig's flies united. I'm a united man. Yeah, it gets upgraded all the time you are in the united world universe. Yeah, that's the word I'm looking for. You're in the united universe, so you always get upgraded.
Speaker 1:I'm united with my A-line just saying yes, so really I was gone from home on this trip from Monday to Monday. It was a long time to be gone. Okay, craig, I'm going to turn my camera off Because I think that might help, because you just keep freezing. Yeah, let's see how do I turn it off, can I not turn my camera off?

Speaker 1:You there? Yeah, I can hear you, but I'm not turning. My camera's not going off, Yep there, it is there, we go there, we go there you go, it's going to be weird not looking at you.
Speaker 2:Hopefully we won't run over each other but I think this might help big time. No, it should help, it should help, it should help. 958. Okay, perfect, yep.

Speaker 1:But let's get into our trip because, first of all, high level Craig Flagstaff, arizona, this is a treasure. This is a treasure. Now I know people are like, oh, I've heard of Flagstaff. But a lot of the people that I've talked to, craig I don't know if you can relate to this I say, have you ever been to Flagstaff? And they're like, oh no, actually I haven't, because it's a little let's be real, it's a little off the beaten path.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's not that big either mean a lot of people when they hear of arizona, they think phoenix and that's all they think of it. They think of phoenix, that's it, but they don't think of arizona.
Speaker 1:They have flagstaff yeah, so it's not a place that was necessarily on my radar, like, hey, I want to visit a place. Oh, I've always wanted to visit flagstaff. But, um, I'm so glad that geo woodstock 20 was there because it brought us to Flagstaff and to Route 66 and the Grand Canyon, which I had you had seen it before yes. I had never seen. Why don't?
Speaker 2:we? Why don't we go from day by day? So you flew to Phoenix. What were your thoughts on Phoenix?
Speaker 1:I've been to Phoenix many times.
Speaker 2:I got one word for you hot yeah it is hot and we were there, that everyone yeah we were there, you know, in may.
Speaker 1:So yeah, it's a hundred degrees, it was hot flew in minnesota. Boy bless, his picked me up at the airport so you didn't have to come all the way down and get me. And we had a great brewery with some burgers. We logged into our untapped. I had a flight of beers. I'm really Craig, I'm really starting to. I'm not a big IPA guy, but I'm really kind of embracing the sours right now.
Speaker 2:Oh, you're branching out from your like light lagers that you're used to yeah, that's kind of.
Speaker 1:My lane is light lagers and I I do enjoy a good sour. Unless the sour tastes like cleaning solution, that's not so great, because there's some that have tastes like musty cleaning solution. Anyway, great brewery Went to bed, we got in the car, got snacks and we headed up to near Sedona. It was actually in the middle of nowhere to the east of Sedona to find the final Geo Geo.
Speaker 2:If you're spinning on your microphone, josh. If you're spinning on your microphone, josh, if you're spinning on your microphone people, it's G-E-O-C-A-C, that's it. So G-E-O-C-A-C. That's it. That's the name, because there's a reason for it, josh. What's the reason?
Speaker 1:Well, yes, first of all, it's a special benchmark, and a benchmark is like the metal things in the ground like survey markers. It's a survey marker but there's five of them in the world that have the geocaching logo on it, like the geocaching HQ's logo, and G-E-O-C-A-C is the designation for it. Like that on the survey? Yeah, like that on like the survey.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:I'm going to murder this but the survey, geological survey site, basically, but it's very rare.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and the reason is yeah, they can only have six, either letters or numbers yes, as far as what's G-E-O-C-A-C, it's only six. They're not allowed anymore. So you can't say geocache benchmark, so it's got to have geocache, geo, geo.
Speaker 1:So here's the thing there's five in the world. I think we've probably talked about this before on the podcast. I actually know we have because we found one together Craig in St Augustine, Florida, but there's five in the Wisconsin, Missouri, Florida and Arizona and Minnesota. Boy and I had found four of the five, and the last one we were going to find was the one in Arizona, and it happened to be on the way to GeoWidstock. How convenient, Right.
Speaker 2:I know, right, I know, and that's where I met you as well. So we met up down there at the parking coordinates. Now, if people want to do this, josh, firstly and foremost, look at your video, go and watch your video, or watch even Tim Minnesota Boy's video as well he did a video on it as well. It'll show you that you do need a Jeep or some sort of high four-wheel drive type vehicle.
Speaker 1:You're gonna. If you don't, you're gonna have to hike. I can't do it. If you don't, you're gonna have to hike six miles, three miles up, three miles down. Yeah, it would be a very long day, which is, you know, totally possible, but for guys like us, we had a jeep wrangler yep, exactly, and, and a jeep wrangler driver as well.
Speaker 2:Tim did a great job driving and, uh yeah, knocked our heads a few times and yeah, it was a rough ride. It was a rock climb it was, so that's the geocache.
Speaker 1:It was an adventure, though, because all the other ones are in like urban places. This is literally in the middle of nowhere. There's nothing around. Yeah, and again, I have a video. Tim has a video if you want to see the adventure. It was really cool and it was just a great way to end that goal. And there is a rumor that there is one in Iraq at the Baghdad airport, so there's actually six.
Speaker 2:We can't confirm if that one is even still there, so I'm just gonna say I don't think, I don't what's that I was gonna say I don't think you, you or I will ever probably see that in our lifetime, just saying yeah so I'm gonna just say it's complete, you know that was the final one and greg Greg, did you get the Missouri one on the way home? No, I didn't. I didn't even know, I didn't.
Speaker 1:I was too concentrating too, Josh, on the car. I had a car problem, so no, I didn't?
Speaker 2:It's just you know what. It's an excuse for another trip.
Speaker 1:Well, I'm so glad that you joined us for this one.
Speaker 2:We met up, josh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I was gonna say we met up for that one, so that's that's my second. And, uh, both you and tim have now completed all of those in in the us, um, so that's awesome. But then I followed you back to our airbnb. Now, if everyone knows this show, we know that josh does enjoy his airbnb. I enjoy them too, don't get me wrong, but josh likes airbnbs the let's just say, uh, not ordinary type buildings or places, etc. Yeah, josh, you stayed in silos before. You've stayed in a tree house or whatever. This was something different.
Speaker 1:Again, this was an a-frame house, josh yeah, it was kind of like a cabin three bedrooms. One of the bedrooms was lofted on the on the peak of the a-frame. Yeah, it was kind of just like a sweet little cabin and the pictures looked like it was in the middle of the woods but there were like several other a-frames surrounding it. It was like a neighborhood filled with a-frames, um, but it was lovely. It wasn't super nice, but you know the the cool thing about airbnbs, too, is that you can stay somewhere unique and you can stay with your friends and you know, and it's typically more affordable too. So, exactly, and you know, we have a stove and fridge and it it gives more than a typical hotel room. Obviously, there's not as much privacy, but who needs privacy? When you got good friends and yeah, so it was great. What did you think of the Airbnb this time?
Speaker 2:Mate, I actually enjoyed the Airbnb as well. I like Airbnbs like that in terms of, yeah, you still get to stay with your mates and your friends, but at the same time, there's still space, so you can still get your own individual space. Know where, josh, you and I had closed bedroom doors and tim had his only space in the loft itself? Um, but you know we have our own little lounge area as well. You know we can sit around watching some television, watching josh's videos that he's replaying for us over and over, and this one I was very happy with because it made josh happy that there was an actual hair dryer there too.
Speaker 1:So well, yeah, if it didn't have a hair dryer, it would have got very low scores for me and, and I think I blew a circuit in the bathroom. So you guys, of course you guys made fun of me as I had to go into the living room and dry my hair in front of y'all, and you're taking videos of me laughing, oh. And I just looked at you guys and I said at least I have hair. No, I didn't say that.
Speaker 2:No, you did actually you said that to Tim. Yeah, you did, don't worry, you said that. You didn't say that in your head. Josh, that actually came up.
Speaker 1:Oh, I forgot that it came out.
Speaker 2:It came out from my head and through my mouth.
Speaker 1:But then we met up on Wednesday evening as well.
Speaker 2:But then we met up on Wednesday evening as well. We met up with our good friend, rob, rob Vardaman, the president of Munzee, as well, and had some beers with him as well, which is really nice too. So, yes, we really enjoyed our trip there, so that was really cool On Thursday, josh. So let's get into Thursday, because we're going to spend some time now. We're going to spend some time on Thursday talking about this, because it requires time to talk about it, and what we're talking about is the Grand Canyon. But going to the Grand Canyon, coming from the Grand Canyon, should you do the same trip that we did? And I'm going to say the answer is yes. So, josh, it's over to you now. In terms of where did we start the day? Whereabouts? Do you remember the name of the place?
Speaker 1:Yes, the day where that's what? Do you remember the name of the place? Yes, so we went over to williams, which was about 30 minutes from flagstaff, because there was a train depot there and the great grand canyon railroad was there and we had planned this since I don't know, craig since january. We got these tickets, these train tickets that take you to the grand canyon. Now everybody asked oh, did the train drive into the grand canyon? I was like. I was like there's no train in the grand canyon, there's a river, there's no train.
Speaker 1:It took us to the grand canyon and you know, and I, we were talking about this during the trip. You know, we, yes, we could have gotten to our cars and drove straight there and probably got there faster. But it's all about you know, sometimes you gotta just slow down and you just gotta take in the experience. It's about the journey, craig, it's not just about the destination, right? So this was all about the journey to the grand canyon. So we booked tickets, round trip tickets, and we had actually had a suggestion from I was listening to the Cashing in the Northwest podcast, because they had the organizer, josh of Geo Woodstock, and he said take the dome car, take the deluxe dome car to the Grand Canyon. And then you're going to be so tired after being there that when you go back you can just take the coach seats, take the cheap seats back. So we kind of lived in the lapse of luxury in our dome car, all access car, on the way to the Grand Canyon. So that was a lot of fun. But I'm going to back up for a second.
Speaker 1:The train depot at Williams. We had breakfast. It was a delicious breakfast and then there was a Wild West show. A Wild West show, yes. And then we got in the train and we headed off.
Speaker 2:And the Wild West. We're talking Wild West. We're talking real. We're talking gunslingers here. We're talking actual the sounds of a firearm bang, bang, bang going off as they shoot into the air. We're talking actual, real horses as props next to them as well. So we're talking a real wild west show and then that show doesn't finish there. Just spoiler alert it's not going to finish there. It comes back at the end of the day.
Speaker 2:But you don't know that at the time it was so cool. Yeah, so the restaurant itself. I love the dome car, josh, being able to sit inside in the back there and then have full access to the front and the back of the train. And I think, to be honest with you, if we interviewed Tim over this, tim's idea of actually going out the back of the caboose, like actually outside the back of the caboose, like actually outside the back of the caboose and having the train tracks going behind this To me I think that was Tim's ultimate for the whole ride to and from, he could not stop talking about having access to the actual back caboose. That was really, really awesome.
Speaker 1:That was so smart, because not all the dome cars that you purchased had access to the caboose, no, so if anybody is doing this, this is this is the big tip right is, get the dome car, but make sure you get the dome car that has access to the caboose, because it was very, very cool exactly, and our dome car as well.
Speaker 2:I'm not sure if you saw it or not, josh, but other dome cars just had the like the seating, like the rose seating. Our dome car had like a side seat as well that you, me and tim sat in and we're talking here, we're talking old school comfort people, we're talking the uh, I felt like I was in like my grandparents uh, lounge chair, you know, couch, um, you know, we had a little drink stand next as well. We had, uh, what we have bloody mary's to begin with, josh, as well, that bloody mary, we had a little drink stand next as well.
Speaker 1:We had. What did we have? Bloody Marys, to begin with, josh as well. Bloody Marys. We had beers. And not only did we have, we had all access to the whole train. Like not the coach people. The coach people could not go to us, but we could go to the coach people, we could go anywhere, exactly, exactly.
Speaker 2:And I did, josh. I did follow you as well with my uh, my new camera and did like a nice little time lapse sort of style of you and I walking through the train. Well, you can only see you, but you're walking through the train. And then we ended up because, even in, even in the coach class people, that there's actually entertainers that come through the train and they sing songs, they play guitar, they they're all decked out in their attire, um, and we stopped, josh, at that female singer. What song was she singing? You recall?
Speaker 1:she was singing for one of my favorite bands, who should be should be in the rock and roll hall of fame. We've talked about this before. As we visit the rock we have from the band america and she was singing. I've been through the desert on a horse with no name. It felt good to be out of the rain and there was like a little kid that was playing like the maracas it was like it was just so wholesome and so fun it was awesome, it was really, really cool.
Speaker 2:And then, before you know it, you you're there, you're at the grand canyon. Because you're so, I feel, because you're so entertained through the whole lot, you're never bored, so it doesn't feel like that long. You know the age-old saying, josh, you know time flies when you're having fun, and that's how it felt going to the Grand Canyon. And then we had hosts. Each caboose as well has a host, their own host, that talks you through the different locations, the area, what the train does, because the train's got to split, apparently. And then does someone, does a reverse thing and goes back because they don't have the tracks that go around. So, yeah, so all this stuff happened and then we got off the actual train, we walked up, the three of us walked up, and we walked up the 67 flights of stairs, whatever it's called. And then you Josh I think it was you wanted to do a Chevy Chase, did you not A Chevy Chase?
Speaker 1:Did you not A Chevy Chase? Oh yeah, I tried to do the Chevy Chase, but Tim kept on interrupting my video. Do you remember that?
Speaker 2:So what does Chevy Chase say when he visits the Grand Canyon? Well, when he visited the Grand Canyon, I think he was in a big-time hurry.
Speaker 1:Well, when he was in the Grand Canyon he was. I think he was like a big time hurry because he was. I can't remember what was happening, but he was like I think he was running from. Oh yeah, he went to the bar and he was like making fun of the bartender.
Speaker 2:And then the bartender like pulled out a gun.
Speaker 1:Anyway, he was trying to, but on European vacation which is second vacation, will be. He's on top of the eiffel tower and he's, he's up there and he has his wife in his arms. He goes oh, it's just, he's like it's just so inspiring, it's just so, it just inspires me. I want to paint, I want to write, I want to. I it just gets my juice. Is there a bathroom around here? Yeah, it's dumb. It's dumb but it works in the field.
Speaker 1:Yeah, Anytime I see something just amazingly beautiful in front of me, I embrace my Chevy Chase. But for somebody who has never seen the Grand Canyon before because people ask me that you know, especially if they haven't seen it before they're like what was it like? And I get it now because everybody kind of says the same thing it doesn't look real.
Speaker 2:No, no, it's 100%.
Speaker 1:Does not look real it's amazing like it looks like a painting, and I think it's because our brain has a hard time comprehending and looking at an object that large, yes, and the depth that you look upon Exactly because you can see it.
Speaker 2:It's not just the actual large, but you can see all of it, right? You know what I mean. You can see a lot of it and it's all there in front of you and you're side to side, up and down, and it's extremely weird to actually see, physically see, and not think that literally it is a painting, a brush painting, I think as well, josh, because a lot of people have seen paintings similar before in the past as well. Yeah, it was amazing. I was awestruck to begin with as well, but then we did the walk up and down the actual rim as well.
Speaker 1:Josh, yes, the rim walk. I believe it was a two miles round trip, maybe a mile, yeah, a mile there and a mile back and you know, just kind of taking in the grand canyon. And, of course, what is this podcast about? Location-based games?
Speaker 2:and the places it brings you. Now let's be's be real.
Speaker 1:We were drawn by the Grand Canyon. We weren't drawn by location-based games in this situation, but of course the cool thing is location-based games are everywhere, so we did a five-stage adventure lab there. We did an EarthCache there and there weren't a whole lot of Munzees.
Speaker 2:So on the way back we deployed a whole line of virtual munsies along the rim between the three of us you, me and tim we're all sort of fighting over the next deploy, deploy, deploy and now. So if you're a munsie player now and you're going along the south rim I do believe it is then uh, yeah, play munsie as you go along as well. So, or do what we did, and that is, on the one route, like one way up, you take in all you know that there is to see amongst the actual grand canyon the people, the floor, the fauna, the whole lot. And then as you turn around and come back, you're coming, you're retracing your steps. So that's when you play the game, so when you retrace the steps yeah, because it was kind of like how do I say it?
Speaker 1:it was just kind of seen it, seen it now, what's been there done that? But for the people that were like not on their phones, they were probably like, oh god, these guys are just. That's horrible. They have a natural wonder of the world in front of them and they're just looking at their phones.
Speaker 2:How despicable I knowging us. And then on the way up, tim had his phone out recording. I had my 360 camera out as well, you had your camera going as well. These guys do nothing, but just go in their devices of all sorts.
Speaker 1:If we don't vlog it. Did it really happen?
Speaker 2:Exactly.
Speaker 1:Exactly right.
Speaker 2:We've got to be able to. It helps our future selves remember these things too when we're in the retirement home exactly, we can relive all those memories um, I can just see.
Speaker 2:I can just say I hope, I hope, I love you to death, mate, but I hope I'm not in the same retirement home as you and you making making the nurses switch onto your youtube channel playing over and over and over again oh, I hope I don't have to go old folks home, I mean, but I just so told you earlier my 93 year old grandma.
Speaker 1:She lives at home. Uh, she's gonna live her whole life there, so good for her. Um, I hope that's my reality too, so I'll watch my videos from home, hopefully. After we enjoyed the unreal views of the grand canyon we were thirsty, craig we'd heard about this.
Speaker 2:We'd heard about this gosh from our caboose attendant. Um, she said to us how to do make sure you walk from here to here, and she gave us all the information that we needed um to really experience everything there is to offer at the Grand Canyon itself, and one of which was these things called prickly pear margaritas, josh.
Speaker 1:Makes my mouth water. Just when you say it, it just rolls off your tongue. Yeah, prickly, pear margarita, we struggled, pear margarita, we struggled.
Speaker 1:You know, we are supposed to be really good at finding things craig, and I don't think any of us really listened very well to the caboose guy because we all we heard craig was prickly pear margarita. We didn't hear where they were, we didn't know where to go, we were googling. I think google finally did help us figure out where the good prickly pear margaritas were yeah, yeah, do you, do you recall where they were for listeners?
Speaker 2:josh, I don't, I don't it was called angels.
Speaker 1:It was called angels something, wasn't it? Oh there you go. Because you end up finding it. I just followed you up and found it, so yeah exactly. Yeah, it was called Angels something. It was a bar. It was kind of like. It almost felt like a bar that was like in the basement of one of the resorts.
Speaker 2:Yes, yeah, very similar to that, and they aren't served in normal margarita glasses. They were served in a tall glass. It did have the salt rim et cetera as well, which is nice, but the prickly pear was very, very different to a normal margarita in my mind. What did you think, josh? Rating it out of 10,? What would you say for the prickly pear?
Speaker 1:Oh, I give it a solid nine.
Speaker 2:Solid nine.
Speaker 1:Really, because we were thirsty too. Yeah, yeah, nine, really well, that's because we were thirsty too. Like you know, we were like practically in the desert. Neither, none of us brought water, like what's wrong? No, exactly.
Speaker 2:Well, my, my scale, my scale is more professional, josh, because I give it an 8.7, because you've got to give it a point something score to be more professional just ask, dave, but anyway. Um, there you go, all right heading back then because we had to head back onto the train itself. We then got into the actual coach class caboose sort of area location, and it was still nice, it was still good.
Speaker 1:This was my only regret, Craig, because they said book coach on the way back because you're just going to sleep, but the coach car was not comfortable for sleeping.
Speaker 2:No, not at all, not at all to the point where I end up getting up. And well, actually, no, I think I did sleep, josh I did remember?
Speaker 1:yeah, I did have a little. I did have a kip, yeah, my neck was bouncing around my head apparently yeah, the musician comes by and he's just like lulling you to sleep with his music it's funny, you know, okay.
Speaker 2:So people out there tell me you. You probably understand this as well. I didn't know about there's a musician there. I didn't have a clue. I was sound asleep, josh. You know, I was actually totally gone to sleep, but when I woke up I started singing the song apparently, that he was playing while I was asleep. So there you go. Song apparently that he was playing while I was asleep. So there you go. His song that he was singing to me was stuck in my head for the next couple of hours. So there you go.
Speaker 1:That's so funny. So I think if I had a do-over, I think I would book the same. It would have been more expensive, I get that. But you know, we built a relationship with our caboose lady. Yes, yep, yep you know, and it was just kind of sad that you know we come back and and she's not. It's just all different and the seats are uncomfortable.
Speaker 2:Like, yeah, it was, it was a much felt very much like a much longer trip on the way back, for sure, than the trip there and on the way back as well, I made sure that I went and visited and got myself a nice root beer float with a souvenir cup as well. So, yeah, I did purchase that myself, that as well. And then, josh, we're sitting there and this is just before, just before we we finished. We were probably about I'm gonna say 20 minutes into the end of the, before the end of the ride, and our attendant attendant was coming up and down and saying get your money out, we'll get your money, what, what. And she said we're about to be robbed. We're about to be robbed. I'm like what? The hell who?
Speaker 1:robs a train. Who robs a train? Well, I know who robs trains I do now Cowboys Exactly Cowboys, or scoundrels. And so we're riding and all of a sudden, the train is going at full speed and we're seeing this was the coolest part, I've done it we're seeing horses run full speed, mm-hmm, with a cowboy on it, guns in hand, along the side of the train, like it was trying to keep up with the train. Yeah, it looked like something straight out of a movie Straight out of the movies. And then the train stopped and then all these scoundrels came on demanding money.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I like how you call them scoundrels. And they were. They were literally running up there. They had guns in their hand. They're firing into the air as well, making sure that you're giving them your money as well. So, but the money. So the, the scoundrels josh, you call them were the same people slash actors that were in the beginning at the uh, the first show while west show.
Speaker 2:So they're the same people and this is how people, this is how they collect the tips for the entire staff members, which I thought was really awesome as well.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and here's another tip. Like for drinks and stuff on the train, you can't pay cash, but when the scoundrels come, they don't take credit for their tips. So yeah, they work for tips.
Speaker 2:So I didn't have any cash.
Speaker 1:Exactly yeah.
Speaker 2:So, technically, technically, I didn't get robbed. Well, I technically did. I had one. A one dollar note is stuck in my hat. You remember my my hat that I wear? Yeah, I had a little dollar note in that and he, I thought I hidden it from him as well, but no, he saw it around and I felt him go tink at the back of my head. I'm like, oh, he got it. He got it so, yeah, so that's how they get their tips. So make sure you have some small bills on you. Uh, if you're going to do this so you can be robbed in person, so they don't mind, they don't mind taking you, taking their photo or video of them robbing you with.
Speaker 1:Just just saying that's funny then we took the train back to williams. Yeah, and I'm gonna I'm gonna say this now because I'm gonna forget it later we did go back to williams because we you know, craig, we always like to do extra things, extra things. And I noticed that there was a kind of a like a roller coaster thing in williams. Yeah, and I don't know how to explain this. Maybe some of you have ever experienced like alpine slides, so it's like goes up on the mountain and you're like on this track, this concrete track. But this was like that, in that you could control the roller coaster, like you could slow it down or speed it up, but it was on a real track. Yeah, and it was so much fun.
Speaker 2:They call them toboggans, Josh. You run a single toboggan, so either you ride by yourself or you can ride with a child as well, and yeah it goes. It takes you up all the way up to the hill and it's one mile long, Josh. The actual track itself is one mile long. So we end up doing that you myself and Rob Tim not so much, because he's not really a big fan of that sort of uh, that sort of thing so just the three of us did it.
Speaker 1:And, oh, mate, I had a blast, absolute blast. It was, uh, twenty dollars, which was totally worth it. But then, after they had a really it was pretty new they had a really sophisticated like way to film you doing it. So I had to I had to buy the video. So if you are a patron of the geocaching vlogger, you're going to get to see that behind the scenes video as a special perk. And actually, you know what Craig? You know what Craig? What's that? I just made a decision.
Speaker 2:Yeah.

They get to. Well, they can see it twice. They get to see it twice yeah, so I'm gonna put it. I'll put it on um, um. After this podcast publishes, I'm gonna put that video on. You can see, because it's we're talking about it now. You can see how that experience exactly, exactly meanwhile.
Speaker 2:After that, we then attended one of the side events for the geo woodstock itself. It was on route 66 and it was an old school bowling alley on route 66. Now, when I say a bowling alley, I'm talking. The organizers of geo woodstock actually hired out the entire bowling alley, so the only people inside the bowling alley were geocachers themselves, like people that do geocaching. So that was really cool. You could bowl for free as long as you want, et cetera. Obviously, you paid for your drinks and any food, but otherwise, yeah, it was all on the house. Josh, that was really cool.
Speaker 1:That was really neat, all the free bowling you could desire. And what was really funny, you know, we walked up to the, to the counter and we're like um, telling them our shoe size to get our bowling shoes, and the guy was like, don't worry about it. I was like what? Like, just wear your regular shoes. I'm like craig, have you ever been to a bowling alley where they're like just wear your regular shoes? Never. I'm like Craig, have you ever been to a bowling alley where they're like just wear your regular shoes.
Speaker 2:Never, I thought you weren't allowed to. I thought it scuffs up the floor or something.
Speaker 1:It does it scuffs up the floor. But I think that I think what happened is there were so many people there that they didn't have enough shoes, so they're just like, don't worry about. It is probably going to buff out the floors after the event.
Speaker 2:Yeah, fair enough, too fair enough. But if you're a long-term listener of this show itself, you know that when myself, josh, and especially when Tim as well gets together and we start doing these extracurricular activities, such as bowling or such as I don't know, axe throwing, those sort of things, josh likes to say oh, you know what, let's put some Zeds on this. And so this was no different. We all said, okay, 500 Zeds this time. Rob, the president of Munzee, who Zeds cost him nothing, he was in on it as well. So he's like yep, absolutely so. The four of us played. And, long story short, josh, you did not win this time, and I was extremely happy about that.
Speaker 1:I got second, or did I get third?
Speaker 2:No, you got third.
Speaker 1:I even beat you so yes, well, let's just say this it was very close, but Tim started off really just destroying us, and then we all caught up and then eventually, tim still won Exactly Tim still won.
Speaker 2:So exactly, tim still won, I got second, you got third and rob got fourth. So that was the actual standings themselves. So that was really cool. So meanwhile, yes, tim did get 500 zeds from rob, uh, myself and from josh. So there you go.
Speaker 1:So well done to tim we're gonna move on to friday and I know, I know we've we're at 45 minutes here, so we going to move on to Friday and I know we're at 45 minutes here, so we need to move a little faster. Let me just say right now, as I reflect on Friday Craig, it's just all a blur. I don't quite remember what we did on Friday.
Speaker 2:I know Friday was quite busy. Still we had geocaching side events, we had Munzee events. The Munzee event started as well at that point in time too, and people, if you haven't been to a Munzee event or you don't know what it is, basically it's very similar to a geocaching event, except as a side thing, as a side hustle, whatever you want to call it as well, is that people actually go out and walk a trail, a physical walk of a trail, collecting physical Munzees as they go around as well. So it's just that added extra bonus of a munsie event as opposed to a geocaching event, where geocaching events josh, as you know and a lot of other people know is basically you can just get together and just have a chat about geocaching, whatever else as well yeah but with munsie events themselves, there's a reason, because you need to collect these in order to collect more things within the game.
Speaker 2:So there's a reason behind getting you out and walking and exercise. So that was really cool.
Speaker 1:But friday, josh, we ended with dirty birdies well, I think we actually were at dirty birdies. We were actually there, I think, on wednesday night actually oh, it was yes so, um, on friday night we, we watched well. So here's the thing, okay. Well, back up for a second. The guys were so patient with me because the minnesota timberwolves were in the western conference finals.
Speaker 1:We're talking about basketball people yeah and the minnesota timberwolves have not been the western conference finals for 20 years and every and so I would just want to make sure, every time we ate somewhere, that I had a tv that I could watch. So I think for Friday, what I'm going to say is let's. I'm just going to go through all the places we ate at, because I can't remember when we ate at them.
Speaker 1:I can't remember when we but we ate at dirty birdies, which was a great um in Flagstaff on route 66, which was a great on Route 66 as well.
Speaker 2:Oh, yes, yes.
Speaker 1:Cannot we ate? There had awesome margaritas. I think this is the first time you had a margarita that had a Corona in it.
Speaker 2:Josh, the margaritas there were delicious. There were so many margaritas, and I remember mine specifically, because I'd never seen a margarita like this before, whereby it is a normal margarita with a big margarita glass, the salt rim around. But then, josh, it's got a I'm going to say in Australia we call them throwdowns and that is like a miniature-sized bottle of beer, yeah, and so it had a mini Corona bottle upside down in the margarita. So as you drank it was sort of refilling from the bottle of beer as well. The Corona. So you're having corona mixed in with, uh, an actual margarita or tequila. Very strange, but still delicious, and I'm gonna give it a good 8.8 on my scale, just saying so there were also many amazing pizza places.
Speaker 1:We went to one of them and I, you know, we love, love a good pizza now and then. There were so many pizza options to choose from. And, craig, there were so many breweries in the Flagstaff area as well, and we know how much you love your breweries. We love again checking in on those untapped apps, and one of the cool things about the breweries is that if you visited like I think it was six or seven of the breweries, there was a little passport. There was a physical passport or a digital passport. If you visited all six of them, you got a pint glass that said something like Flagstaff breweries on it or whatever, and I think I believe you probably went to more breweries than I did because you got there early, but I think I went. We went to like four of the seven breweries that were in Flagstaff.
Speaker 2:Josh. The best thing about that brew, too, though, is the fact that you don't have to be a game player like a geocacher or a munzee player in order to get that actual glass itself. That glass came from the visitor center. You can either A download the there's an app or website that you can go on that's geolocation-based, so you can go to a location and know the phone knows you're there, and then you click the answer to what the the question is, or you can do it on a physical passport as well, so it wasn't actually like location-based gaming sort of you know style, so that was pretty cool. I really like that yeah, they.
Speaker 1:It's kind of like the city created their own location-based game around beer.
Speaker 2:Yes, exactly absolutely just like the pizza tour did in Ohio.
Speaker 1:Exactly.
Speaker 2:So, yeah, I did enjoy all the beers, josh. I do enjoy my untapped. I log all my beers on untapped and if you're not a friend of mine on untapped, why not jump on me? See my shell. I've got a few more friends since we've been talking about untapped. Just saying Josh, oh really walking down untapped. Just saying, oh really, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. So then, josh, we roll now into saturday. The big old geo woodstock geo was like. Tell us, josh, your opinion of this geo woodstock in comparison to your others, because you've been to what seven in total?
Speaker 1:uh, this was my eighth geo woodstock eight, there you go, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2:Seven to eight.
Speaker 1:So I'm just going to say it Craig, Are you ready?
Speaker 2:Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1:Yeah, are you ready for a hot take? Oh, absolutely Go for it this was my favorite, gia Woodstock of all time. Really Wow Of the eight. Now they all had great things. Yeah, they all had great things.
Speaker 2:But for me.
Speaker 1:This was my favorite. Well organized, yeah, um, a lot of people like it. It drew a lot of people, yeah, perfect location. Oh yeah, route 60, I mean weather route 66, whimsical, really unique side events we didn't even talk about. We did a a side event, of course, at the bowling alley we talked about that. There was one at a ski lodge. It's the end of may and people are still skiing with their shirts off. Uh, it was, yes, some incredible, yeah, incredible location. I, I, really, I really loved this. Geo woodstock. It was. I think it's maybe my favorite so far. How about you?
Speaker 2:You know why it's your favorite so far is because I was with you there the entire time, the only time you and I have actually been at a Geo Woodstock the entire time together. The only other Geo Woodstock we went to was in Cincinnati, but even then we were sort of like we were only on and off from each other.
Speaker 1:Craig, that's not true. You just totally told the biggest lie. Oh, just totally told the biggest lie. Oh, that's right, I forgot about kentucky.
Speaker 2:Last year we were there the whole time together. I mean, look, kentucky was good. Nothing against kentucky. Jeez, I'm not going to edit that out, josh I'm going to leave that.
Speaker 1:That was pretty bad because that was just last year. We did a podcast about it I know we did.
Speaker 2:I know how bad is that. But anyway, sorry, kentucky, kentucky was very good. We had our bourbon tour in kentucky.
Speaker 1:We had there was some really fun aspects there was fun aspects of the kentucky.
Speaker 2:but, yes, no, I do agree with you, josh, and that is to me personally it was about the location of the actual event, the geo stock event. Because you had to first time ever, josh, I've actually had to get my bag checked by security staff in order to go through the entry gates. And so once you're in the entry gates, literally it's one way in and one way out, so it's all gated around, so you become part of that group and you don't really want to leave. It doesn't make you think, oh, I wonder what's over here, and then you can go outside the perimeter there. No, once you're in, you were in, but for me as well, the Amphitheater had a lot to do with sticking people around. You know, things were happening at the Amphitheater. The only thing that I would have maybe, maybe looked, maybe doing something differently, was in between some of the people, some of the hosts, whether it was 15, 20 minutes. At times they could have had some sort of little background music or something like that. You know what I mean.
Speaker 2:Yeah, something. To times they could have had some sort of little background music or something like that. You know something to keep people motivated about. Okay, what's up next saying, and staying there, etc as well. But, mate, they fed people as well.
Speaker 2:That line for the food was insane. You had, uh, a buffet buffet lunch. If you could, you can purchase a buffet lunch as well. So there was a lot going on. So a big shout out again to uh, to josh um dave and all the staff that handled that. Plus, josh, a big shout out as well to all the volunteers. There were so many volunteers throughout the weekend and, again, not just with the actual Geo Woodstock, but even the side events had volunteers as well. So massive shout out, josh. We had parking attendants, normal Geocache people there that were doing parking attendant duties, that were there voluntarily. So that's one thing I do love about our community, josh, is that we're all there. We help each other out. You know we volunteer where we can and you know it's great. So a big shout out to everyone, everyone that was involved for for geo woodstock.
Speaker 1:So yes, that's pretty cool. It's, uh, geo woodstock is, oh, always just kind of like a big family reunion. I I mean, there's people that I see at these that sometimes I haven't seen them in years, or I see them once a year. So there were so many familiar faces this year just because I think it was so well attended and we met a new face too for the first time. This kid was a highlight for me. This kid named Julian from geogadgetscom yeah, the kid contacted me before geo woodstock and he said he, he 3d printed some magnets, some geocaching vlogger magnets, and, um, we stopped at his table and he, the the kid's enthusiasm just contagious and, oh yeah, he was excited to see me and I was excited to meet him and that kid was awesome. So shout out to him. I don't know if he listens to podcasts, but both him and his parents were awesome. That was a highlight for me.
Speaker 2:It was really cool and for me, as a video side of things, a videographer he was Josh. He was a one-take wonder, just like you. He didn't actually have to spill any words out, he didn't stutter, he was, so his enthusiasm came across on camera, perfectly exactly the way it needed to be. So, you know, and even he even got you riled up a little bit, josh, too, at one point there where you ran around him with you you're doing the yes chant, you're running around him because he couldn't stop and he wouldn't stop and I'm like this is great, this kid is fantastic. So, yeah, big shout out to julian mate. He's gonna go, he's gonna get some distances and again, link for his website is going to be in the show notes geogadgetscom.
Speaker 1:it's pretty easy, so but yeah, and craig, let me just say you've done some fine, some fine work with the highlight video that was posted on my channel Everything we're talking about. As far as for the event, you're going to get a real sense of what this event was like if you watch that video, josh, because again, when I do the video itself, that sort of energy comes across onto the screen to me as well.
Speaker 2:Plus, if I can match it with some sort of audio that really matches the area, the people, whatever it might be, then it really does build me up as well. As I'm editing too. So I've listened to that sound now several times, so I do enjoy my editing. So there we go. So I do enjoy my editing, so there we go. But, josh, geo Woodstock didn't end just there.
Speaker 1:We had to have a Munzee Mega after it in the afternoon and the funny thing is we didn't know if the Munzee event was going to go Mega, because to be a Mega event in Munzee has to have 50 people attending it.
Speaker 2:And they have to actually attend.
Speaker 1:Yes, people attending it and they have to actually attend. Yes, and there were several people that that maybe had downloaded munzee in the past and they haven't played much. And and you know there was a lot of buzz about munzee because rob was rob, the president of munzee, was there with his green coat, you know he was hanging out with us, um and and so when we got to this munzee mega event, it was just it was approaching 50 and then it did go over 50, so I was so happy for that yes, yes, me too, me too.
Speaker 2:So, yeah, they're very, very different. Munzee, like the games themselves between munzee and geocaching. Geocaching, you have to have, uh, 300 will attends in order to apply for mega scholarship, basically. But Munzee has to have 50 actual attends on the day. So even if they've got 100 will attends on Munzee, they're not mega until they actually click over the actual button and be Munzee as well. The logbook is a QR code. So there you go. That's the difference, josh. We're running into time. Now. Guess what we're going to do? I think we're going to do Sunday and Beyond, as a patron only.
