Welcome to this week's episode of Treasures of our Town, where we'll be exploring the wonders of Florida's Space Coast.

Located on the eastern coast of Florida, the Space Coast is a region that stretches from Titusville in the north to Melbourne Beach in the south, covering over 70 miles of coastline. This area is home to some of the most exciting and innovative space-related attractions in the world, making it a must-visit destination for any space enthusiast.

In this episode, we chat with Dale and Barb from SpaceCoast Geostore, and their history, along with their travels across USA.

We'll also take a trip to the Space Coast's many beaches, including Cocoa Beach, which is famous for its surf culture and home to the world-famous Ron Jon Surf Shop. We'll chat about the may places to visit while on the Space Coast, including the Wizard of Oz Museum, and Long Doggers restaurant.

Because I was I was gone you indisposed. I was I was to another country to another land. Had. It's great to be back. It's great to see your face. Yeah. And to hear hear your voice. Oh, thank you, Mike. Thank you. It's good to see you as well. And, and good to see your travels. Now. I did follow your travels on your Instagram page when you were over in Germany. Tell us Joshua, tell us Josh. I mean, I've been starting to look at some of your videos from Germany. There's that there's that trinkle out now once a week they're starting to trickle out now. I think the one that I just watched was the one in Sindh Vindel as Daniel says vends and vandal. Mike, I'm telling ya, those caches over there are absolutely incredible. And again, we're talking geocaching, Josh. Yes. If you don't know what geocaching is, and you're listening to this podcast, Geocaching is a worldwide scavenger hunt where we use GPS to find hidden containers all over the world there you're caught up. We might have to put that into like a disclaimer or something at the start of the start of the podcast. This is not a geocaching podcast, but it is a travel podcast guided by location based games like geocaching. Munzee Yeah, exactly. Dare I say Pokeyman go. You haven't got there yet? Maybe.

cute little cartoon characters. Yeah, I think that's what she likes about it. But anyway. Anyway, yes, I was in Germany. I don't know how much we should talk about it because treasures of our town we focus mainly on United States but I was there with Gein punked which is a geocaching company. They have several sort of branches. And one of their branches is a company called Cash horizon, which is a geocaching travel agency. They take Germans all over the world on geocaching tours, but we did something special. I did a German tour with Americans. So Americans, we all met in Frankfurt, and we did a I think it was a 12 day tour. Wow, round around all of Germany. I went everywhere this time. This is my fourth time that I visited Germany, and it was maybe the most epic trip of all time. I'm gonna put you on the spot Josh right now we haven't we have not discussed this, but I just thought about them. We haven't discussed it. Why don't we just why don't we do like a because we've talked about obviously traveling in general and everything else as well. And this show is predominately about the treasures of our town in USA and you just went to Germany. Why don't we do like a 10 minute discussion separately for our patrons only about Johnny. Ooh, like a special special edition Patreon. Only Josh I love that idea. Especially since most of our patrons at least right now in the early iteration of what we're on Episode Six. They're pretty much all geocacher Yeah, so they will be really interested in that. Yeah. And let me tell you on my YouTube channel, the Geocaching blogger over the next several months you're gonna get a lot of stuff from Germany and I think it would be fun for people to to hear me maybe unpack Yes, everything that I experienced that's because of video you know, videos 10 minutes but to be able to unpack pack and just just explain a little bit about what I what I did. It was very unique. It was a great time. And yeah, watch watch the YouTube channel for the next few months. Oh, get a real real good taste 100% And I'll say this as well Josh and that is you're the guy you're there with Daniel. Again, if you don't know who this guy is, etc. then have a look at the Josh's YouTube channel have a look at his Instagram pages etc. as well and you'll find Daniel, Daniel is is he'd like the the person in charge of this guy to what's what's the goal with Daniel? Daniel is the person in charge of, of Gohan puck they do they build geocaches for companies, they do team building events geocaching team building events they have a mobile escape room. Oh wow they do a lot and of course cash horizon so he does a lot that were the Geocaching and they make some him and his teammates some pretty fantastic geocaches anyway, enough of that geocache talk because we're gonna get to the Space Coast but how have you been? What What have you been doing since I've been in Germany? Well might since you've been in Germany you know, it's been beautiful. We're not going to talk about the weather but it has been beautiful here in New Jersey as well. And I thought to myself well I've got a I've got Nick on camera with me a still camera and D 400 Nikon camera, a beautiful camera it is as well and I got myself a new lens for it. So one of those like the telephoto lenses as well. So I thought well, I could I'm always going out walking. I love walking around. You know again, we do that geocaching we were playing Monsey. But I've got a couple of beautiful parks here that I like to walk around. And since the weather's changed, or the Osprey, the birds have come back, they've migrated back to New Jersey and back to their nests, and they re nesting and they're doing eggs and you know all the little hatchlings. It's gorgeous and it's been the bird life here is incredible. And I thought, why can't I just you know, takes a few photos rather than video or do some photo work with these birds. And I'm telling you this camera I've got people say that have said to me before about singing. They're amazed. They're like, you know, Craig, what is this? You've been burning for a while. I'm like no, I mean, what's her name? chronically tired mum, Alyssa. She reached out to me privately and said you know she because she's a birder at heart. She has been burning for years. And they call it burning apparently. I didn't even know that. And she said to me, You crack these shots of yours a beautiful you know, hell have you been burning for a window like a week? So yeah, I've been doing a lot of a bird photography of sorts. And I'm telling you bird photography, it beats people photography any day of the week. So Craig, you're becoming a birder? Is this is this happening? Are we transitioning into becoming like, check, check the box, I've found that bird or I photograph that bird? Well, I have downloaded an app. And the app is called a bird. And it's a very good app. Like if you're walking through a bushy area woodsy area and you hear a bird of some sort. You can get this app out and put it on microphone mode, and it tells you what the birdie is by sound. He says that's amazing. Alyssa the chronically tired mom, she's actually when she reached out to me. She said Cray you should. You should watch this movie. And it's a big movie is a big year. The big. I love that movie. I watched it. I love them. And so what's the big year? Yeah, it's awesome movie Josh. Yeah, I love the big year and I you know anybody who likes checking off boxes, like geocaching, it's a birdie movie. It's always birdie movie and it my favorite comedian of all time is in it. Steve Martin. Steve Martin. He's Jack Black jaw. Yeah, Owen Wilson. Yes. It's a sleeper like a lot of people don't know about that movie because I don't think it had a lot of success. But I love the big year. It's a great wholesome movie. One of my favorite parts, because Gary from geocache talk also is a birder as well believe it or not, he's a he's an underlying birder. And, and his part favorite part of that movie was when spoiler alert if you haven't watched it, but when Jack Black and his dad who they didn't really get along, too well, he doesn't understand the whole birding thing. But they find an incredibly rare owl in the snowy mountain woodsy area together. Well, his dad actually sees it and pointed out to Jack who's the birder so it's like a moment of Father and Son time moment together. That's you know, and it gives you those those chills that feeling but but yeah, so that's what I've been doing. And yes, so I have downloaded an app. I do click off the boxes of which birds I've seen with birds. But I've only do it to the birds that I've actually photographed. So yeah, the actual photograph the birds, not the ones I've heard and whatever else as well. But, but yeah, but this weekend, actually today as we speak, there's a New Jersey is audit Audubon. Audubon. The actual arterburn Audubon. The Audubon Society. The New Jersey Audubon Society today are having a big weekend this weekend. So and I actually may have donated a couple of dollars or two to the to the local photographer here, who's doing a whole trip that from the north to the south in New Jersey, counting all the birds that he possibly can to try and win this this big weekend that the new Jersey Audubon of half so I love that so that you can just promise me Craig that I'm not going to lose you. Oh you definitely want me from your geocaching and Munzee hobby to burning definitely let's just let's just add it all let's add it on there's there's room for it all let's exist yet bird burners can coexist with the geocachers. Good. Well, let's transition to something else that flies. Yeah, and that is rocket ships. Oh, I know. Right. I know. We've got Dale and Bob here on the show with us today. Yeah, we're gonna be talking about the Space Coast of Florida. We're talking Cocoa Beach. We're cocking Cape Canaveral. Greg and I visited there in January. We had a great time. We did we did. That's where Josh Josh that's where this podcast was birthed. Remember, in a hot tub if you listen, listen to that first episode. It's called birth in a hot tub. And you will know the origin story of this podcast but we're talking to Dale and barn from the Space Coast geocaching store. They are from the Space Coast. They they know a lot about it but also Craig. Also, they have a band that they tour around United States so they know a lot about their hometown but they know a lot about the nooks and crannies of the United States which is perfect for treasurer of our town. Can you imagine that Josh van life mixed in with geocaching mixed in with Munzee mixing with travel. Ah Wow. That is really not true. It really is. Josh, guess what? Guess what? Guess who's got on my show tonight? Well, today I don't need I don't need to because you can see because I know and I'm very excited to talk to them. I see them Craig all over the country. It seems like wherever I go, they are there. They absolutely are. And if you don't know who we're talking about, you can actually follow the their adventures on Facebook. They are the one and only Dale and Bob and they own space coast geo store down in Florida. Get a doubt get a bob. I say get people that say g'day to me, but anyway, that's all good. Blood. So that's this is true. We discussed this when we were in Florida. So yes. So Dale, firstly, congratulations, you guys own the geo store down in Florida. Tell us firstly in terms of you know, how long have you owned it how it started help begun. So originally, we owned a automotive air conditioning parts store. I worked for a company for 17 years they were closing down. We bought their inventory Barban I opened up AC Park House and 2004. And we were operating that for roughly 10 years. Was it 10 years I think anyway, we we had an extra room in our store that we weren't utilizing. And one day Barb says why don't we put some geocaching stickers and maybe a couple of containers in here for the locals. If they need to put a cash out. They don't have to wait for it to get shipped in, they can just come in here, pick it up and have it ready to go. And so that was the birth of the Space Coast geo store. And we just started carrying a couple of things we contacted Groundspeak we got connected with them. Then I started reaching out to other companies and and we got linked up with several different ones. And it just continued to grow and grow and grow. Eventually we had to close down our air conditioning business when they laid off 9000 employees at the Space Center. And so then we decided okay, we're going to try our luck at just having a geocaching store. And we were fairly successful with it for a while and then times got hard and we decided to close it down and we ended up partnering up with Munzee to open up the all new Munzee marketplace and that was going really well and then there was a thing that happened within the Munzee company and and so they closed down the marketplace and so that's when Barbara and I decided that we were going to just do this from home and traveled to events and it's worked out well. We missed the camaraderie of having players come in our store but we get to we get to see a lot more people a lot more country and visit a lot more events now. I have very few geo regrets in my life. But I have two of them. And the first one is I went I went to Hawaii before I started geocaching and my second one is that I never got to visit your brick and mortar store before it closed. It was officially the first brick and mortar in the United States sold geocaching supplies Wow Yeah. I think early on when I started geocaching I like Googled geocaching stores and and you came up and then I started seeing videos because you had a giant In a geocache, like inside your store or is it outside it was outside my dad and I built it. And it was it looked like an ammo can. And it was large enough that at the time we built it I could get inside it I put on a few pounds so I might not be able to get inside it now but but we've moved it how many times we were allowed to move it three times three different times to three different store locations and and Groundspeak basically told us, yeah, we're not moving it again. And so we archived it, and we raffled it off and it actually still exist under a new listing as a tribute to a cool cash on the west coast of Florida. And my gosh, the number one favorited traditional cashing out over 1000 Really favorite points? Yeah, the only one above that was the virtual at Disney. And we were in the top 10 favorite of geocaches in the world at the time. Obviously there's been a lot of changes now since and favorite points have been doled out you know, to a lot of different things now so but it was fun. That was one of the really cool things about having the store is having a really big unique cash out front and Groundspeak came in did a video they did a video of our store and interviewed players and and they just said that it's like a clubhouse because we had tables we would sit and look at all the travel bags. There wasn't any travel been too big to fit in our cash mannequin Casey So Josh all this all this others geocaching talk straight off the bat we've got to say to the those out there who don't know anything about geocaching Josh what is geocaching? You say it best? Sure Geocaching is a location based game. It's a worldwide scavenger hunt where people use GPS technology a smartphone app to search for hidden treasures treasures in quotation marks because of course the location is often the treasure that's why this is called treasures of our town and 3 million hidden worldwide and as Dale just said as well sometimes these containers can be a lot bigger than a lunchbox for instance they can be the size of a human being so yeah they're all different sizes or different types so that is geocache if you want to know more get to geocaching.com for more details or Josh go to your your your YouTube channel where you were you have lots and lots of adventure so that is geocaching. On more now to darlin Bob, because that's who we're talking to with the store itself. So Dale going back itself then Bob was the brains of the all this and you were just the brawn by the sounds of it. Is that right? Like if she's the one that said to you, like, oh, let's do some geocaching. Make it into a geocaching store. It sounds sounds to me like she's more of the brain about it. What's very correct. How long have you guys actually been down on the Space Coast like lived to down that way? Because we talked about the Space Coast initially as well for this, this podcast. I moved to the Space Coast when I was nine years old. So I've been here for a long time bar. I've been here about 26 years now. Wow. Wow. And for those who don't know, the west coast of Florida, so then I moved over to these. And for those that don't know, space is actually called the Space Coast or is that the Space Coast just the term everyone uses for like Cape Canaveral area. The county that we live in, which is Brevard County is known as the Space Coast because this is where obviously where rockets are launched. And so it's always been known as the Space Coast. Nice, nice. Dale, you've lived there since you were nine years old. So thinking back when you were a child, what were some of your favorite things about living on the Space Coast. So I lived in a place called Rock legs, which is about 15 minutes from hair and times were way different back then it's grown crazy. But obviously the most favorite Barb and I were talking about this before we came on. The most unique thing about living here is your walk out in your backyard and watch her rocket go up. We did it at one o'clock in the morning this morning. We walked outside and got to see another SpaceX launch from our backyard. It's it's it's just something that not many people can say that they can do. I mean, it rumbled for like four minutes. And so when you go to open the door and you can tell your how shaking from the rocket. That's pretty cool. Wow. Wow, that's absolutely amazing. So how often do you see these rockets launched? If that's the case, then? Well, whenever you know SpaceX is launching, they launch all the time. I mean, there are times where they'll do you know back to back days they do them, you know, once or twice a week. There's other The times where it might go a month before you have another launch, but they they do a lot of launching now. They put a lot of satellites up. Wow. So Dale, have you been there? Since you were nine? Did you see the original launches? Such because I know that you know that you're not a young gentleman. Let's be honest, and neither neither a doctor I, I was able to see the original space shuttle launch. And it was very cool. We knew some people out at the space center that worked there. And they gave us passes that we could actually go out to the Space Center and watch the first space shuttle launch. And so yeah, I got to see a lot of the space shuttle launches in person up close. And that was, that was incredible. Speaking of Space Shuttle launches, it makes me think of my childhood. And that is the Challenger launch. Dale, did you get a chance? Did you get to witness the challenger? Launch and explosion? Yes. Actually, I was I worked night shift at the time and I was on my way home from work driving down the interstate and a lot of people will pull off the road or whatever when a rocket you know when shutter was going up. And so I was watching it go up and yes, I I literally watched it explode. You know when you know driving from work to home. Wow, that is that's amazing. That's so burned into my brain it it's kind of like, for me, I wasn't alive when John F Kennedy got shot. So that's like my childhood tragedy. And did you from the West Coast? Were you able to see that one or no? Do you remember that? I think all the kids that do a great went out for recess to watch it and everything so And coincidentally my daughter I named her Krista but it wasn't for Christa McAuliffe. But it was the same timing. You know that? Because she's 37. So, yeah. Oh, and in saying that to Josh, what's today we're recording this today, Happy Mother's Day to you, Bob. We're recording this, if you don't know we actually record these shows prior to posting them. And we and Bob is taking a little bit of a timeout today on Mother's Day to record this with so Happy Mother's Day to you. And thank you for joining us. So as you think about the Space Coast now, you all said that it's really grown. It's changed. The rockets. We're in a new space age sort of feels like with rockets going up constantly. Yes. But what is what is great, what is unique about it now, if people visit, where should they go? What should they do? What should they see? Well, if you're if you're coming to the Space Coast to be a tourist, the obvious place and our area would be the Space Center, Ron John's, Port Canaveral, we have just become the world's largest passenger cruise terminal. That we did it. We've been teetering it number two for several years. But now Port Canaveral is the number one cruise terminal in the world. And so we have a lot of ships that come in and out of here. One of the world's largest is cost the port home. So it's neat to be able to go see those ships coming in and out of port. Also come back to the boosters from the space launches, they will land out on a drone ship and you can actually go out to the port and watch those come back into port. You'll see it sitting sitting across the water from from one of the restaurants there. We still have the Trident submarine base is still active and you'll see subs come in from time to time. Most of the time when those come in, though it's unannounced. And so it's just by chance that you happen to see one of those. And then of course for geocaching, we have a lot of great geocaches in the area. And one of our premier locations is Wickham Park, which is where Barb and I host an annual event every year in February. And we there's there's roughly between 50 to 70 at any given time in that park, for cashiers defined and we have a lot of you know different different styles of caches in there. There's everything from the micros to gadget caches and anything in between. Josh Can you imagine we just I remember back to our time when we were down there. We were only down there for a short period of time. But we did the touristy thing to a certain degree as well. Like we visited Ron John's, and I had never heard I'll be honest with him coming from Australia. I'd never actually heard of Ron John's itself until I moved here and saw how prevalent Ron John's actually is. And we've got Ron John's here in New Jersey as well to say but I've got a couple of jacket I'm actually wearing like a salt life sort of shirt at the I mean as we speak as well, so we went to Ron John's we went down we saw the ports as well. I even placed a Monsey and down there remember a physical one as well. But can you imagine Josh, can you imagine sitting there at one of those beautiful restaurants in that port area? What Dale was just saying, and seeing those those those boosters come back in? I mean, we saw them ourselves and we saw them the boosters land again, we saw that. Can you imagine seeing them up close as they now that's incredible. This space coast is a location that has to be put on someone that your bucket list 100% And it seems to me that it's just such a great location for the whole family. Of course, in Orlando, you got all the theme parks, but this is like, I feel like the Space Ghost is like a real life theme park. You know, you got future future land in Disney. But this this is future land as rockets are going up in the space center and the history and and of course, the gator in golf. Oh, yes. Yes. Standard golf. What's your favorite Josh's? Well, was the the Wizard of Oz Museum. Yes, for those children at heart. And I think we can maybe discuss that a little bit after. After we talked with Dale and Barb. It's clear. Space Coast is amazing. It's home for you. But really Dale and Barb, everywhere seems to be home for you. As you probably put more miles on your Space Coast van than maybe Craig and I will do in the lifetime. So I wouldn't say last time I finished my travels yet Josh. You have a moving essentially store, you go to geocaching events, Munzee events all over the country. And so you travel a lot. So my question for you is, where's your favorite place to visit questions in the United States and why? I gotta go out of the United States on that one. When we had the opportunity to go to Australia. That was very brief. Over there, we went over for Munzee events, but that was a dream come true that I never know what's gonna happen. I was totally surprised. So but and and otherwise, we just love the travels that we did last year when we drove over to Seattle, Washington, and we went to the Groundspeak event. So we saw a lot of beautiful Utah, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, the Dakotas, that that whole region is just it's like a different world when you live on the east coast. Yeah, flat Florida. Yeah. And it's just absolutely amazing. So we loved it out there. This podcast is, you know, we talked about some of the bigger areas and some of the more popular, maybe touristy areas, but you, you guys have been to sort of the nooks and crannies of our country. Are there any locations in the US that cities or locations that was surprising to you, you get there and you're like, What is this place? This is an amazing community. Can you are there any of those smaller communities that you can think of that really stick out? So when we were driving on this last trip, when we went to went to Seattle, we're driving down the interstate, or it wasn't I don't even know that it was an interstate but we're driving along across Wyoming. And if you've ever been to Wyoming, there's not a lot there if you go if you're outside of a large city, and so we're driving along and Barb says there's this geocache that's got a lot of favorites. But it would be about a 30 minute drive out of our way. And I'm like I let's let's just do it. And so we drive to this town called Thermopolis. And if you've never been there, it's one of the I think it's the largest hot springs. And it was the most incredible drive for me. I don't know why. The drive to Thermopolis was just absolutely gorgeous. And then we just wandered. We thought we were going there to find a cache, getting back on the road and leaving we spent six hours wandering around Demopolis which is a little nothing small town. And it was just it was incredible. We that was one of the places. Josh guess what, what Dale is me at heart because when I first came to the US and I drove all the way across us, people said to me, what's your favorite state? I went to 26 states. To me Wyoming was my number one state why again, the same thing Dale just said the drive into the monopolists. Now I stayed in Demopolis for two nights as well. A good friend of mine smile makers. His name is on as geocaching name. He hosted me there as well in Thermopolis. The hot springs are beautiful. And I now have an earthcache in Demopolis in regards to one of the hot springs locations as well, and I'm not sure I think how long ago was that that you actually went there Dale? Oh, yeah, it was just last summer, I think you may have logged my earthcache. I'm just trying to think I think you may have, unless it was a super easy earthcache. It is they might have caches, they were usually due to a lot of Earth caches because I like to find geocaches. And, you know, we enjoy geocaching, as it's meant to be to go out and find geocaches. I don't we don't particularly care to do puzzle caches where you spend hours trying to solve something or a lot of the earth caches tend to be encyclopedia reads that take you four days to read the cache page. Understand it? And then 17 questions that you have to answer is very easy. You have you have to touch the water and tell me at what temperature you think it is by hand and tell hot or cold and take a photo of yourself. Like that's pretty. That's pretty much my favorites. Pretty much it so but yeah, Dale when you set them opolis Oh, man, you brought back so many good memories for me. I'm telling you, you, me as a traveler as well. So BB does anything any place other than Thermopolis come to mind. come to mind. You guys have been so many places that stick out to you. Oh, what state was it in that river gorge, West Virginia. When we were driving through there, we're just driving over a bridge. And Gail says, oh look, you know, look over the edge or whatever. And there was a gorge. And that was one of those things that it wasn't planned at all. And we just pulled over and we spent several hours climbing cliffs and started going out on the cliff stepping out. So yeah, that was a surprise because it wasn't a plan stop or whatever. So that was really that. That's what we love. We when we drive we do a lot of squirreling. So meaning that we get distracted, we see something really cool and but sometimes Dale needs that he's mainly the driver, I'm usually filling geocaches cutting log sheets while he's driving. So I'm working as he's working and, but sometimes he needs a break from driving. So then I need to find something to pull off looking up favorite caches, and the app is really works really well for us. So not only just pull over and another spot that just hit me was in the UP upper peninsula of Michigan. We were driving along there and we went to either I can't remember the name of it. It's either pictured rocks or painted rocks, painted rocks, and we did a lot of hiking up there. There's waterfalls and and I grew up in Michigan. That's where I was born as Michigan. And then we moved here when I was nine. And so to go up there and see that was just one of those things where it's like, oh, wow, I never never knew anything like this even existed. The upper peninsula of Michigan is a lot different than the rest of Michigan. It's a it's like its own world up there. But we also got to go see where the Edmund Fitzgerald ended up sinking we were on the coastline of where that happened. And I always loved that song growing up. And so when we heard about that, that was a spot that we had to go to us as well. And that was very cool to go see. You know that in the history of, you know, the the Edmund Fitzgerald and stuff like that. So it's cool things like that, that we really love to, you know, just happen upon. And we're used to sandy beaches here in Florida. Because it's all rocks. Yeah. It's a layers of rocks. And that was that was really different and interesting tasks. And the whole speaking of squirreling around, we on the treasures of our town podcast, we're, uh, we're big fans of roadside attractions, world's biggest things. Actually, our last episode was actually about that. And so, Dale and Bob, I'm sure you have run across several roadside attractions world's biggest things. Do you have any of your favorites that you have seen? As far as roadside attractions, Iowa freedom rocks, I have to go see every freedom rock. What is that? What is freedom? Raphael can explain better on that. Well, Baba, he paints the rocks. Yeah. So it's, it's basically what I can remember. It was a guy that started doing a commemorative paintings on rocks for fallen soldiers. And he ended up he does a freedom rock and he's done one in every single county 99 counties in the state of Iowa. And they're, they're huge drugs, they're giant boulders and he he goes out and paints them with these beautiful murals of soldiers and, you know, with their names on them, and it's it's always in some small town. But it's, it's, it's really cool to seek those out. And it's a certain one. Yeah. He repaints every year, right. In fact, he's right in the process now of repainting the original one. And that's in Des Moines. I believe. So Josh, as always, these links that we discuss will be in the show notes because I have just found the freedom rock.com And it actually tells you it's a tour Josh, it's a tour of Iowa 99 It says 99 Peace mural across Iowa and each rock is is yeah is part of a tribute to fallen soldiers, etc, as well and the US military is such so yeah, unbelievable. It's it talks about promoting the the American veterans, it promotes IRA to tourism and also provides for your families as well. So they do have a like a giving. What do you call it, like sponsorship, etc, as well. So that's unbelievable. So there you go. I was born in Iowa. I traveled Iowa a lot. It's my southern neighbor, and I've never heard of that before. Yeah, yeah. Thanks. Now I have a new I might have a new hobby. I might have to hit every single Iowa County and find those freedom right and also we could reach out to the Iowa tourism and talk about these Iraq's as well. Totally. I think we should talk it's really cool. And one of the other things in Iowa you probably event to Barb's favorite actor, she she's having a coughing attack, so she had to leave for a minute. One of her favorite actors, Kevin Costner, the movie Field of Dreams was filmed in Iowa and we had the opportunity to go to the field of dreams. If you've watched the movie, that is one of the coolest things to be able to walk out to that baseball field. And and just think about don't cross that line. They did walk out into the cornfield behind the fields, and it was just that was a really cool, sort of roadside attraction so to speak. That that was a wonder then because the artist of these freedom rocks, his name is Bae Baba Sorenson. I wonder if that was his idea was if you paint it, they will come. Yeah. It's, it's funny, because I have been to the Field of Dreams a couple of times. And one time I went there with my grandma, and I filmed a geocaching video. And it's on my YouTube channel, we'll put it in the link. But basically, I'm at the Field of Dreams. I hear a voice and the corn. And the voice of course is handy if you hide it. And so all of a sudden, my grandmother appears out of the corner with a geocache. She hides a geocache and then she walks back into the corner and disappears. So you have to check it out. It's it's one of my older videos, but I'll have to link. Yeah, it was it was memorable. Love that location. And now in Dyersville, Iowa, where the Field of Dreams is they now they have professional games there every single year, I believe the Cubs play or whoever. So that is quite a destination, which is in the northeast side. As always, we start talking about the Space Coast and up all over the United States. What's going on with this show? That's okay, it is. But we're providing value, but we should talk a little bit about money. Well, I was gonna say that. And this is a question now for Bob. And that is, you were saying before about you travel all over the United States as well, in that van of yours. Can you describe number one, describe the van that you're talking about? Because apparently if you are a Munzee player, then you get stopped when you're on your adventures out in the big wide world, something happens. But what is actually what is first what is Monday, what is Monday? Monday is also a worldwide scavenger hunt. And instead of containers, you're looking for QR codes. And so instead of signing a log sheet and a cash, you're scanning the QR code and that's proof that you found it and the day you found it. And so that's taken us on a lot of great adventures to so we both the hobbies are work hand in hand if we go to a really cool cache, and you can play some virtual Monday, so there's nothing physical out there. And but you can it'll guide Monsey players also to that location, because there's a lot of mumsy players that have never even found a cache there, you know, the hot their hobby is just Monsey. So, but we do have a QR code on the back of Our van as well as a travel bug. And so either way if cashiers or Monsey players to see us on the road, they can wave honk flashlights and we'll find the safe way to exit. And then they've caught the Road Warriors while we're traveling. And you can either score a cool path tag and or with Monza you get a badge, you get a special badge for seeing us and then we usually get a selfie and post it on mine that they've caught us up while we're on the road. That's really cool. And how would they how would they see your van Bob like describe your van because I've seen your van and I'm telling you now it is the perfect travel van to travel the United States in So what sort of Van is it? Well, people think that it's our van life, but it's not it is our lines, but it's a cargo van. And we always carry our canopy 12 A dozen tables or whatever and probably about 25 buckets of stock. Because no matter if we're traveling for Munzee event like we just did to Minnesota and we were on the road for 10 days, we have had our online store so we are always filling orders every day. And so we have to carry all of our bulk stocked of geocaching supplies because sometimes people order in large quantity and we have to have that with us while we're traveling. So it's a large white van that says Space Coast to store on it and very easy to see especially when we stop at a store you walk outside or a hotel parking lot. You see our van right away. It's it's usually taller than any other vehicle in the parking lot. And again, thanks so much for both you to to show up today and have this little chat with us. People, they're proud of their hometown. They really are. They're proud of their town. And rightfully so let's be honest. You know, we visited the Space Coast, Josh, as we said before, and we loved it as well. We loved it. You know, a lot of every aspect of it really, let's talk about some aspects of what we enjoyed while we're there. Yeah, what are unique and special place. And you know what's really interesting, you know, you and I traveled together to Lompoc, California. Yes. Which was one of the places where many of the SpaceX launches are they release some of the satellites from there, and how interesting that almost within the same year, we visit the two probably most significant locations for four rocket launchers in the United States. We made almost whether it was the same year was it was almost within the six months of each other. While we were in you know, we were Okay, that's right. It was 2023. I was there. It was January. No, we're there in January, Josh. Now if we want to do the trifecta of space launches, we need to take a trip to the Houston area, which we have actually talked about. We have we have because then if we do the more than the trifecta, the quadrangle, we can actually go to parks in New South Wales, Australia, where they've got the dish. And they because they use that area, Houston use parks with the big dish to get to because it's on the other side of the world. So it actually gets to the communication of the satellites of the astronauts, etc. When Houston can't actually obtain it. They bounce it off through Australia. So there you go. Yeah. Okay. I'm game. I would love to go to Australia. But you know, Craig, and I'm sorry, Dale, and Barb, there, right. Constant space launches, and we got to see something that I never thought I would necessarily see in my lifetime. Yeah, no, right, Josh, but I couldn't believe how many how often as well, Dale was saying how often they actually launch like something twice, sometimes twice or three times a week at the moment. Yeah. And the Space X launchers if you haven't got a chance to see any of these on YouTube, it's amazing. The rocket launchers, and then the rocket boosters gently land on like a ship in the middle of the sea. I didn't realize they actually come back through that port either. Imagine that, because they they are we saw it from I'm gonna say miles and miles and miles away. Yeah. And can you imagine seeing them up close? Like how big that would be? Yeah, that would be amazing. So Craig, tell me about like, your thoughts. We weren't sure. We were gonna get to see it. Because we were weather. Like, if the weather slightly changes. Yeah, they postponed these launches. So yeah, it was supposed to happen, I believe on a Saturday that we were there. But it did actually end up happening on a Sunday. Yeah. And what are your some of your reflections as you remember back to seeing the Space Launch on the Space Coast? Well, just the actual space launch itself, firstly, and foremost, and that is we sat on a like a beach sort of area, like a little cliffy beach area. But the amount of people that turned up to sit there as well was actually incredible. I didn't realize how many people were actually with that involved in these launches. Number one. Number two, is the technology people had so from the actual different cameras that they had to the some people were actually in direct communication with Houston. I'm like, wow, these people are just next level, you know. But honestly, just just to sit there even even to be to side by side with you might as well and just watch this thing launched into the air, the feeling of it as well. You could feel it. You could hear the rumble. You could feel the rumble. But it doesn't just go instantly automatically, either. It takes time to get up there. And then because when we did it was in the afternoon. It was a Sunday afternoon. And so you actually had as the sun was setting behind us because we're on the east coast. So it was setting behind us. The sun rays will actually be me off the smoke that was billowing up from the from the jetpacks. So it was like a orange smoke. It was coming out from the jetpacks. Now if you want to visualize this better your YouTube video you actually can see it. I think if you search Cocoa Beach Geocaching Vlogger on YouTube, you'll be able to see it. But yeah, I was. I was surprised to see all the space nerds with all their like technology. And it was like they were launching the rocket themselves. Yeah, exactly. And I turn up with my little DJI action cam. You got your little Sony vlogging cam there. Right. And these guys have got telephoto lenses that are six foot long. Yeah, we felt very much out of our league. Yeah, very unique experience. So if you do choose to visit the Space Coast, just take a look at that schedule. And see we're in a new space age. I believe with SpaceX with launches all the time. I remember like when I was a kid, it was pretty rare to have like a shuttle launch happen. Like those were like months and months between sometimes years in between. So it's so cool to be able to witness that so often. But let's talk a little bit more about Cocoa Beach. Yeah, and let's talk about the area. That's the other thing as well. People are going to do they travel down as you said, have a look. But you don't actually have to be let's be honest. Anyway, you have to be on Cocoa Beach, for instance. You don't have to be you can see this or watch this from a variety of locations. We didn't we weren't on Cocoa Beach when we saw it. We were up north further. We were halfway between the St. Augustine and Cocoa Beach. And all we did was literally to duck in thinking oh, we've got like half an hour until the launch. So we've got a duck in here somewhere and see if we can see it and again we had one of the perfect spots. But then there's no unperfect spot like as Dale said he can see for his backyard One o'clock in the morning, just like just like Sarah Palin is can see Russia from her backyard. He can see rocket ships. Well, I believe him more. But anyway, so my my first impressions of Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral is that this is obviously east coast of Florida. Yeah, it's a very tourist. very touristy place. As Dale said, the space center is there. The beaches are there. It you know that main strip? A one a? Yeah, yeah, the Tron Avenue. Yeah. Girls are hot. Yeah, we did not see any buddy in bikinis, however, because we were there in January. And it was like 50 degrees and very cold. Like, well, wasn't cold for you, you're for me. But you can see the true Floridians that were actually dressed up in full snow gear. But anyway, and it was it was cool. It was mid 50s. It was called for hanging out on the beach. But yeah, we got we got beach beach for miles. But here's the thing because everything was so tight up against the coast, Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral. It kind of felt like a small town. It does. Didn't get that good. I got that vibe. Yeah, because it's like a peninsula as well. Like you go across the bridge onto this, this island peninsula that goes all the way down the coast. I mean, we have it here, Josh in New Jersey along the Jersey Shore. It's the same thing. The Jersey Shore isn't hard up against the East Coast of the US. It's actually a peninsula that runs alongside, it's the same feeling that I got when I'm on the Jersey Shore to what I got on there in terms of the width of that island isn't actually that wide. So the feeling of it isn't, you know, like a big town feeling at all. And but not only that, the close proximity to Orlando, you know, people fly into Orlando, and they do the whole Orlando thing and the theme parks and all that sort of stuff. Unbeknownst to some people, if they travel, you know, a little bit east, they can get to a different type of theme park. Yeah, a theme park with like, like I said with Dale, real space. Not real rocket shots, not just baseball. But real spaceships. And I was actually kind of glad it was a little more chilly because I don't know if you remember but it was pretty, pretty quiet. You know? Yeah. We it was at the end of January. And it was I believe it was unseasonably cold. So yeah, but the the beaches were pretty empty because it was windy. And it was cold. But but it wasn't crowded at all. No, not at all was pretty nice for us. And let's just say why were I we were there because of a major of Munzee event. We were we talked about with Dale and Barb. Yeah. And that weekend. Monsey is really a game all about points. There were so many Munzee so if you don't understand, like people can drop virtual McKinsey's. Yeah, pay into an area from all over the world. Like you don't have to be there to drop them in. No. And there were the whole peninsula was literally covered. So much, in fact that the one of the people there got the world record that weekend. Yeah, for the most Munzee points over 4 million points, which is crazy. Yeah. 4.25 point 3 million points in one day. And that's, and that's the main reason why we were there. And of course, you can see that on the video as well. Yeah. But we were driving all around the peninsula. And we were using what are called blast captures. Remember that? Yes, we will, you will draw them. So it was driving. Explain that to the people for if you're not a mumsy player, as we're saying before, you can cap these things virtually just by driving along the road and pressing like cap cap cap, when you get within a certain radius of that particular virtual. So what a blast capture is, it basically allows you to blast the amount of like, I think it's at the moment now they've reduced it like 5050 Max in a small radius area, like a one mile radius. So you can sit there and blast away the mile radius at a time and blast 50 that time so instead of going through and pressing the button 50 times you can press one button, and it blasts 50 of them straight away, bang off the bat. So yeah, we did that. Quite a few times. Yeah. You got the most points. You got over a million points I did I got over a million points myself by doing that. And that's my highest ever and the highest ever for a while I do my might think. But yeah, because there was so many what they call cards, which are virtual, they were only there for seven days, Josh so you've got to capture them when you can you gotta get them. But again, if people don't know what Monsey is, what what's the benefit Josh, you can actually ask this what's the benefit? So for instance, you know, I'm here in the good old US of A and say, in England, for instance, on this weekend, they just had their mega events over there and they did the same thing. I put like four or five cards over in England, from my account here in the US. But what how does that benefit me, Josh? Yeah, the cool thing about Munzee is that when you deploy a Munzee Yep, that when somebody captures it, not only did they get points, but you get points as well. So again, it's a game all about points. We're not going to we're not going to dive much further into Muncie. But I just want to explain kind of why we were there. And this whole peninsula was just chock full of after we explored it explored all the fun of, of Cocoa Beach and, and Cape Canaveral. I mean, we were playing leading up to midnight. Yeah, we did. We did. We do. We were even playing from the hot tub. Josh, let's be honest, we were there were monkeys on top of our hot tub that we didn't even put there that were already put there by other people. They didn't even realize people, those people Josh, who put their Mondays on on our hot tub didn't know what they had what they where were they placing those monies? You know, they didn't realize. So let's talk a little bit more about Cape Canaveral. I was placed with a cape canaveral area for a couple reasons. There were some Monsey events there that drew us there earlier. There was some really great restaurants we did several restaurants with some some great seafood after all, it was right by the sea. Yep, yep. And First things first, I'm probably going to trigger a memory for you here now because we didn't discuss it. Our first restaurant we had was after that Friday night event. Remember, we went to that that? And we had a do we I think we just had B's and an appetizer or something of that restaurant itself. But that was our first one there. And again, it was a beautiful restaurant overlooking that. What was that building? I can't remember that building that when there was we actually walked around as well. It's in your video. Yeah, I don't remember what whole building was. But it was it was a beautiful structure. It really was. Yeah, and yeah, and what was really cool about that area is that is the place that were the most cruise ships come in and out I believe. Dale said out Yeah, he did. And these ships are huge. And it just was so fun watching people we were waving. We were waving to people as they were you you were you were Yeah, the seat to see your face. It looked like a kid in a candy store. You were standing there like chest out proud as punch head up, chin up. And you would waving to these these crews going people that are just cruising out and cruising back in this harbor. I think the main hub it used to be in Miami coming in out of Miami. And they've moved it now to Cape Canaveral. So Miami used to be and the reason why I know that is because I've actually got an adventure live in Miami Airport. But anyway. But yeah, it was fun to watch the people leaving on their vacation because they were all very happy. Very, very happy indeed. Wavy but great restaurants along there. But there was a special type of geocache there called a webcam. Oh, that's right. That's so Okay. Here's a little education. We're educating all you traveled people. Apologize. Sorry, not sorry. But there was a special geocache there. That is a webcam. And basically, there's no physical container there. But there's an actual webcam that is already there. And and the whole goal is you have to get your picture with the webcam and then you find the geocache? Well, the thing that's very special about this webcam is that this webcam is in my comic book. That's right. That's right, it was two because all the locations or locations of in my comic book are real locations. So I had to pick a webcam. So I decided to pick that webcam and I had never visited before. So I visited first in my comic book before I got to do it in real life. And that was just really fun to be able to actually go to the spot where that was depicted in my comic book. I believe I had a a, like Hawaiian burger. Yeah, they had they had hot dogs and I just thought the service was so great. And they had almost like, it was like a patio. But it was like completely covered. Like so it was like all weather patio. It felt like it felt like like a tiki room. Yeah. Kind of felt like a tiki room. I really did. It really did. Yeah. And because it was it was like an outside sort of feeling as well then it was it was a nice wasn't too cold. It was a cool breeze coming through. But we could sit there in shorts and a shirt in January and be comfortable relaxed and good food I had I would call it crumbed prawns but you call it coconut shrimp. So that's what I had along with your we call them chips you call them fries. But yeah, that's what I had to I thoroughly enjoyed. Enjoyed mine. They were delicious. Yeah, that would be my recommendation for food inexpensive. There are a lot of great fancy places to eat especially good seafood because I was gonna say good seafood because as you can understand as well you need to be along the coastline somewhere to get good seafood you know, even Portland and San Francisco on the on the west coast or you can have even Jersey here on the East Coast. But yeah, I don't know what it is just something about eating seafood in the middle of a desert like in Las Vegas. It doesn't really you know, it doesn't compute with me. It doesn't have the right vibe. Like that salty air. Yeah, for sure. Let's talk about some of the fun things to do. We did. Again, we had limited time mostly fun word was driving around capturing Monsey is for us. But we did do some fun stuff. One of the places that really stuck out at my mind was the golfing game. Mini Golf. And I don't know how to explain it like exotic animals Yangzhou? I don't Well you could feed actual gators. Remember we fed actual gators that we're going to gate a pond with a rope and a hairpin? Yeah, that'd be a boy up. Come on. Bobby. With a bobby pin. What was some some Frankfort? What do you call it? Hot dogs. We can Frankfurt's pieces of hot dogs on the end of bobby pins. That was so cool. That was so cool. I've never fed baby gators hotdogs with bobby pins before. But they loved it too. Those gators were loving it. They're loving life. They really were and the owner and the person that runs this place. His name is Safari Todd. This is what I describe Safari Todd. quite easily. Josh Steven with an American accent. Okay. It's 100%. How describe him because he saw Josh and I we obviously had our cameras there as well. And we were there with Rob from Monsey. He's the president of Monsey and we're also there with Carson as well who's now on part of the Munzee team with their their video stuff as well which is cool. Give big shout out To rob and to Carson. But we were there playing miniature golf with them. And then after we played the miniature golf itself, we got introduced to Safari Todd. He brought out he brought out like a little gator for me to hold in for you too. Did you hold as well? You held the gate. Oh, yeah, I held the gator but I didn't do the photo of death. Oh, the photo of gang members a photo of death. Can I forget the photo of death? Josh, you were brave enough? I think it's because you're Australian. Yeah, that's why you're brave enough to do it. But tell them about the photo. The photo diff consists of two live real scorpions with their with their pincers. And there, this thing is still attached, placed upon you on your shoulders or chest area. At the same time you put your hands together, and a tarantula, a beautiful, gorgeous it was orange and black. See, I can remember orange and black. She was she just she was so soft on my hands were introduced so gentle. I thought to myself, Oh, you're just a cute little puppy. Like that's what it felt like to me. So I can I can just imagine all the listeners right now cringing at that site. I couldn't do it. I mean, he said, Oh, these scorpions in this these, this tarantula is just so sweet. And he was just like, You know what? They're still wild animals? Of course they are. And he did say Todd didn't say that to us as well. He said just they still are wild. And they're untrained. You know, he said so? Well, he does. He does some video work for actual real movie producers as well, because he does have some trained gators and some trained other like scorpions, and for movies and TV productions. He was so knowledgeable. He really means this guy could talk forever. About gators and lizards and everything. Snakes. Oh my gosh, snakes. Oh, yes. He was talking about. They had you know, they had some hurricanes. And when a hurricane happens, happens in Florida like it really disrupts the ecosystem. When Gator alligators and snakes that are in certain areas get moved to other areas that they shouldn't be and end up in people's toilets. And like it's it's but lazy. What he was saying about the last hurricane was is that they have because it's Florida so it's different. You know, no, no disregard to Florida because Florida got lovely people there. But they have a lot of Florida men. They have a lot of Florida. And what a man Gator is toilet. Exactly. But they have these, these exotic snake, reptile zoos. And what he was saying was when the hurricane came through, it actually smashed through the zoo. So all those exotic unnatural snakes that shouldn't be there or got all got, like, you know, just spread out throughout the actual the swamp land of Florida. And I believe he would like go and like, try to get them back. Right. Yeah, they have they're on. They're on a hunt for some of them as well, because some of them obviously still breeding now in the wild. And so you've got fun. Yeah, you've got you've got very poisonous snakes that are not not common to that sort of area. So well. Golf and Gator gators, but also we had golf. Yes, it's a mini golf course too. It's a mini golf course. There's two there's two rounds. We only do one round. We went the one where we go underneath the mountain area and go through the mountain. That was pretty cool. It was unique mini golf course because at some holes you would like spin a wheel. That's right. And it would be like there'd be like challenges like you spin the wheel and like Okay, your first shot you have to do with your eyes closed or something? Yes. Every shot you do you have to do on one leg. Yeah, it was the other one as well or you can't remember the the one you can't talk at all until the person the last person finishes their shot. I think it was cast and it couldn't talk at all, you know, so it was fun. Yeah, then, you know, we drove by because we were on this, you know, a one a beachfront each run over and you Yeah. And we kept on driving by the tin man. Oh, that's right. The Tin Man. I was like, yeah, why is there any time you know, we love roadside attractions. Anytime we see something unique. We're like, ah, yeah, there's got to be a geocache there. Yeah. There wasn't no there was there was a Munzee Yeah, yes, there wasn't Monsey there itself placed there for for the tin man. And again, the Tin Man is on your video as well Josh. And also, again, probably going back to a Monday a little bit here and that is Dale and Bob. They've created I think it's the world's first Munzee tour. So if you do if you do the grab these Mondays that they've placed there as part of the tour, and finish those Mondays, you get a special badge, a special digital souvenir yeah took us to some space actual places it took us yesterday and man, it took us to like a space space shuttle sculpture. That's all there is. It took us to have this like butterfly like garden. Yes, that was so again, this is totally on brand with his podcast. It really is. It's taking us to the treasures of the town. Eggs. I just thought that was really unique because you know how much you and I we love geo tourists which do the same thing as basic geocaching, taking you to different places in town. This was actually McKinsey's taking us to different places in the town, and we got a special badge badge for it. Exam. But the reason that we saw the Tin Man is what there was a Wizard of Oz Museum. Hmm, there. And we saw it. We walked in there just because we were curious. There was a yellow, yellow brick road. It was a yellow brick road that led us to the door and we went in there and they kind of sold us on it. Oh, 100 Especially that that was I'm not sure if he's nationality. I'm going to record here. I think he might have been German or something. But he had a had a very strong European accent. Yes. And he hooked you big time. Josh when it comes to it, like he's his enthusiasm for the Wizard of Oz and letting you know what was inside. And it was very, then we went in there and then they had obviously just like a normal museum around it was really nice. Then they had that immersive. Light show. Yeah, it was like a Wizard of Oz experience. You know, around the country. There's a lot of these like Van Gogh Van Gogh's where they, they sort of project things on the walls. It was like that. Only it was Wizard of Oz. So at one point, I'm literally the projectors. You got I got a video of it. I am literally skipping down the yellow brick road. You were you were in heaven that day. Are you skipping down that yellow brick road I've never seen like a grown man was such a big smile on his face skipping away down, like in the middle of a building with nothing else around you apart from this light show. Yeah, that was really cool. That really made the museum unique. But if you if you if you're a fan of The Wizard of Oz, the amount of collectibles he had, and he also had, he also had screen used costumes from the axon movie. Yep. And that was and so he had quite a collection and also was really interesting to see all the original Wizard of Oz books. He had original, original first run copies of, of several books. A lot of people don't know that the Wizard of Oz is just one part of, of the Wizard of Oz series. It's a series series of books and had them all in there. And we we actually had had QR codes in there that you could scan and you can listen to the what we were seeing in each of the q&a. There was about $30 but as a Wizard of Oz fan, it was it was really interesting. It's a great spot to visit on a rating day, including Ron John's, a Rando that was like yeah, that Ron John was just down the road as well for that. And that is that the first I think that's the first Ron John's store to Billy I believe it's the first one John store is the one on the Space Coast and it's the I know it's the biggest It was huge. They have like people on surfboards you talked before about roadside attractions Josh, we were talking big surfboards with people riding surfboards on there then they had as well. Monuments dedicated to those surfers have passed, you know the world surfing champions pass. So it was very, very on theme. Yeah, I really enjoyed Ron John's and the coloration as well. The colors from the yellows of the art was gorgeous. Yeah, it's one of those places it's a store but it's it's a store that you don't necessarily have to spend any money in to enjoy joy when it is well like that. Another store you're talking about before on one of the last previous podcasts in regards to like a being a temple or something in new walk in it's a bass fishing store or something. It's the same thing. The pyramid pyramid? No, the temple pyramid. Well, Craig, we could talk for a long time about base coasts, but I believe we're probably over time. You know, these podcasts?
